Marine corps barrel break in.

I am just gona rag on my beloved corps for a min. My unit just issued brand new M4s for everyone in the unit. We took these out to a field fire the other day for the soul purpose of "breaking them in". This is how we did it. "shooters load a mag of 28rds, now place youre weapon on burst and fire 7 bursts at youre target" all that X4!!!!. These are the same rifles we shoot the 500yd kd range and our score there is a factor to pick up rank!!!!!

I LIKE THAT!

We always thought it meant Uncle Sam's Mis-guided Children

Not your typical barrel break in procedure, eh?

That's the accelerated method. ::)

Dont you mean what the HECK!!! you probably should modify your post a bit!

Ya that does seem a little crazy, but i myself do buy into the hole barrel brake in thing much. I will shoot a couple of shots and if no copper is present al is good. If i do find copper then i take it a little slower until the copper subsides! By the way, Thanks for your service to our county! Lee

USMC50gunner, Semper Fi! Yep thats a kick in the teeth. I reckon the "minute of indignant personell" is still the defining(maximum) accuracy requirement for the T.O. battle weapon. Just clean it good and refrain from full auto fire, when possible. You may be able to salvage some of the accuracy potential for requals. However, if you are in the heat of battle, that is not an option.
Your M-16 variants are far superior to the M-16's we were issued back in 1967-68. We gave up perfectly good M-14's for those pieces of trash. I went through 3, M-16's! Glad I was able to requal with the M-14, Stateside. I've never had an interest in the AR's since. However, I do know they have come a long way! "Improvise, Adapt and Overcome" OOaahhh! Greg

PS, Have you been issued the new (green)5.56 ammo as yet? I was curious as to the accuracy and knockdown compared with the old 62 grain steel/lead core? Thanks for taking the time to answer. Greg

They are crome lined. You were just knocking the anodizing off of the inside of the upper reciever. That is the only break in that is going on. They wanted to check for function more than anything else.

Well greg we havnt been shooting "the green round" in training yet but i think they are starting to field them in afghan. Thanks to everyone for putting thier two cents in. Semper Fi

Really guy? you find the need to cuss here? We are in somebody else's home here.

Show some professionalism and common courtesy and fix your post.

Doesn't have anything to do with being soft! Its about respect and being appreciative of a great site! Its common knowledge that those types of words are not used here. I have worked in construction, and on my farm all my life, soft i am not!!! Not to mention he was asked in a suttle way to change his post, and choose not to. To me this means he plain just doesn't care! Thats to bad because i for one really appreciate all the effort that goes into this site, and being asked to follow a few simple rules isnt much to ask. Im sorry for offending you gents. Im new to the site so i dont really know how things work around here. Being a young marine that was raised on a dairy farm and poured concrete before joining has kind of made cuss words an everyday thing that i dont even think about.

USMC50Gunner, Thanks for listening to the language concerns. This is a family site and Regardless of the sentiments of some folks. Your Toughness, resolution, ability to do your job in an outstanding manner is not defined by foul language. I served in Vietnam as a Marine before many here were born. I understand that tradition, but have worked hard to end the habit. We dont live in a perfect world, as you well know. Walk softly, theres nothing more impressive than supressed power under control. Words wielded carelessly are like firing your rifle and not hitting the target. Only HITS COUNT! Words have power!Unleash that power, only when necessary with the desired outcome in mind. Always With Respect, Semper Fi, Greg

I understand your comment above!

I also couldn't state anything better on this post/thread as "lelongcarabine" did.

Again, thanks for listening
