march riflescopes ?

anybody own one of the ffp scopes how are they as far as image quality and recticle size when you turn magnification up are they too thick or just right any comments greatly appreciated

What is your shooting discipline(s)? Answer really depends on the use.... I just purchased a SFP 2.5-25x42 (MTR-3 reticle) and Jim is going to send a FFP 3-24 for me to compare. I want to use a scope for both F-class and tactical matches. On paper, the reticle thickness at 20X are 0.08MOA and 0.6MOA for the SFP and FFP scopes respectively. I have not gotten the FFP scope to look at yet, but .6MOA is a pretty huge dot for F-class..completely covering the X-ring. On the other hand, sling shooters can do extremely well with globe sights putting circles on top of circles. So, I bet you can do well with a FFP scope in F-class if you worked at it. It would definitely be an out-of-the-box solution... :-) All the feedback on the FFP reticle I've seen is positive.....it'll probably work real well for hunting and other more practical styles of shooting.

I have the March F, the FFP 3-24x42mm model, with the FML1 reticle.

Glass clarity and resolution is superb, though March traded off some contrast to get the resolution.

Brightness is superb up until ~20x power, when it begins to dim a little. Still very useable at 24x, just not as bright as a high end 56mm objective scope at the same magnification.

Again, due to the laws of physics, the exit pupil is rather small at high power, and creates a pretty small "eyebox", meaning your pupil must be in the right spot (in 3 axes) to get a proper sight picture. That is nature of the beast when you've got a small obj lens and a lot of magnification.

Overall the scope is fantastic. I am a tactical shooter, and generally shoot steel, but I also shoot groups, and some midrange F class. The floating dot in the center of the reticle is great. It is almost as if you can "see through" it when you concentrate, and it merely becomes a halo surrounding the small target behind.

All that said, I don't think I'd recommend it for a square range rifle. That's what higher magnification, super-fine reticle scopes are for.
