March MTR-2 VS MTR-5 reticle.

I'm very close to purchasing a March scope. Can I get some opinions on these 2 reticles? As I understand it, the difference is the size of the center dot. In the upper mag range (45x or more) will the dot on the MTR-5 be too much? Will I lose the dot on the MTR-2 in less than ideal conditions?

I know this is all subjective. I do not have a place to go and look through other peoples high end optics at the moment. I'm looking for opinions from people who have owned/used scopes with these reticles. I also realize that March will switch reticles for a fee, so I'm not completely stuck if I don't like what I choose. I will make the best of whatever reticle I choose and learn from it. This all being said, I'm still curious to hear what y'all think.

Thanks!

I have never had or used the MTR-2 but I have the MTR-5 in a 10-60x56mm HighMaster and I really like it. Probably depends on how good your eyes are. Mine are 66 years old !

I have the mtr-2 for FClass. I love it, works great for my mid 40's eyes. However my eye sight is still going strong. Couple of friends who are older have a hard time picking it up but still make it work. I also have a 5-50x56 with 1/8 dot and the 1/8 dorlt is bigger.

I dont think the mtr-5 will be too big. But if your eyes are good go for the mtr-2.

Down the road I believe March can change them.

I have the MTRD2 with a tiny dot. More a matter of getting the ocular properly focused for your eyes than having old eyes. My 62 year old eyes with no astigmatism love the little dot. Able to hold off inside the XRing.

I had an MTR-2 reticle in my March-X 5-50X56 for 7 years. When I turned 65, I could not longer see the reticle and I did send it back to March to swap the reticle with an MTR-5. It was perfect.

When I got my March-X 10-60X56 HM, I made sure it had the MTR-5 reticle, which works really well for me.

Stymie & Jeff Porter, are you using the illuminated or non?

I'm mid 40's with good eyes (for now), so I'm leaning towards the mtr-2.

Thanks.

In your mid-40s, the MTR-2 will be perfect. I have illumination on both my 5-50X56 and my 10-60X56 HM, never used it. I even took the batteries out. I would've saved a few hundred $ each, if I would've known I wouldn't ever use it.

I have both models but don’t turn on the illumination unless it is very dark day. Usually the black of the dot pops on the target face just fine.

Competition optics hardly ever need illuminating for this shooter...yea take out the batteries.
or save some dough and get the non illuminated optic.
Love the March-X HM optics
