March High Master

Just read on a major vendor site that the HM 48X is discontinued. Anybody know what’s up?
Unless mistaken these have been out only about 1year or a bit more.

My guess is that fixed power target scopes just do not sell very well now days. The Nightforce 42X only lasted a year or two also.

Probably because the issue with scopes that are of such fixed high powers is that you can’t turn them down when the mirage is bad. I may shoot a first string at 55X but as it heats up and mirage gets bad ( to worse ) I’ve had to turn down to 25X. Just my two pennies.....

One needs to understand that this scope is not meant for general use; it's actually quite specialized. I don't see it for F-class, but then again, for years, I shot F-TR with a fixed power 36X scope. If it doesn't suit your needs, don't buy it, but other people use it with great success; they use it differently than you do.

Back to the original question; I checked with Deon and they said essentially that all March scopes are built from scratch by hand at the DEON plant. If a scope is listed on the website, it can be ordered and it will be built. This is not mass production, this is hand-build from scratch by skilled craftsmen who can produce any scope listed on the website. For instance all March scope tubes start off a bar stock aluminum that is completely machined to produce the finished tube; it's not press-molded.

Do they ever plan on fixing the genesis that folks paid $5000 a piece for...asking for a couple friends?

When next you talk with your friends, ask them if they contacted DEON directly?

Go to marchscopes.com and click on contact us and fill out the form. If you do not get a response in a few days, feel free to contact me. The GENESIS is in production now and they are also releasing a 4-40X52 version.

I do love my March 48x52 High Master. Flawless optics, less to go wrong with it. I use mine for Mid and Long Range F-Class. Can't say that I use mine differently but it's my opinion that it cuts down on time spent thinking about what power I should use, is it tracking properly (a problem i have heard from some really good shooters about even the best variables). I don't feel in the least handicapped. I expect I'll get some shade for this post...but I don't mind, it's cooler in the shade.

If you want to use a lightweight March variable, the EPZ ( Eye Piece Zoom ) offered in the line up may suit your needs. I have used the older 36-55 EPZ for both 1000 BR and A LV 6ppc with no complaints. The EPZ feature does take a bit of getting used to because the eyepiece moves in & out to move through the power range. It sits in a set of offset rings these days on the 6ppc.

Regards
Rick

Just as a follow up. There was a March 48X52 on display at the March booth at SHOT last week, along with a 40-60X52 EZ HM. They are still making these scopes and I talked with some people who came by specifically to see and play with these scopes. Benchresters. One guy already had a couple and was buying another one.

There are times when a vender says discontinued but really should
have said, "No longer stocked". Optics Planet is famous for that crap.

What is / was wrong with the Genesis?????
It's not a secret; they even have the details at the website. You can read about it here:

It was something to do with the lubricant used in the first 20 units back in 2019, which coincidentally is the date of this thread. DEON is legendary for standing behind their products and making things right. Have you ever seen another riflescope company admit to an issue, and at their website?

The Genesis is a radical departure from normal riflescopes and is aimed (pun fully intended) at the ELR crowd with their monstrous cartridges. Here is another story you might like:
