WOW! FIFTY ONE shooters on the line yesterday –a great turnout for our first match of the season. Beautiful weather, mild conditions, and good friends, new and old, on the range –it doesn’t get too much better.
I sure want to extend a warm welcome to the group of Midshipmen who came out to shoot with us –you guys did a great job in helping with setup and teardown of the targets –super smooth, and MUCH appreciated!
You also did a great job on the firing line –shooting, keeping score, and helping keep the match moving well. I hope to see you all again soon.
Also, a big thanks to George and Nikki for tractor wrangling, stat work, and range work in general keeping us in a nice range in general. Also, a big thank you to Madonna, Ramsey, and Henry for pre-match set-up.
Before I forget, welcome to all our other new to us shooters, Garey Diefenderfer, Rodney Jenkins, Mark Boyd, Eric Burton, and Delorean Andrews. Hope you all had a good time and will be back soon!
Anyway, on to the results!
In F-Open, Mike Eash had a pretty good day, dropping only 2 points, and racking up 43 X’s for the win. Anthony Witheridge wasn’t far behind, also dropping 2 points, but ‘only’ 38 X’s. Herb Egberts had a GREAT first match, knocking out a clean with 18 X’s –now you know you can do it Herb!
In F-T/R, John Johnson turned in a nice 592-32X, followed by Todd Norfleet, who nailed a 590-30X after a long absence from our matches. Welcome back, Todd!
On the sling side, we had 18 service rifle shooters (thanks to the Midshipmen). Leading the pack was Rodney Jenkins (NOT a Midshipman J) who fired a nice 575-16X, followed by Matt Walters (Midshipman Coach) who fired a 574-19X (and kept some street cred J). Midshipman Clifford Smith fired a 572-17X to lead the ‘no gray hair’ group. Really, everyone did a great job, and I hope you all had fun, and learned a bit for next time.
In Any Rifle, Trevor Hengehold was on fire, firing a nice 600-42X for the category win, and the overall. Nicely done, Trevor! Close on him was Mark Trew, who fired a 598-34X. Well done, Mark.
In Palma Rifle, Jon Howell dropped two whole points, firing a nice 598-38X for the category win. Your author took second with a 595-25X. Both of us were shooting .223’s.
Anyway, that about covers it –our next match will be April 12th and 13th , with a 300/500/600 yard match on Saturday, and a 3 x 600 yard match on Sunday, with a two day aggregate.
Long range will kick off on April 25-27, with a practice on Friday, a Palma PLUS 20 match on Saturday, and a 3 x 1000 match on Sunday –this match will qualify for V2 Points.
