Great write up, Donna!Another Great weekend of shooting at the RWB. Had a Great crowd with some new faces in both Tactical , Light and Heavy gun.
When it was all said and done the weekend belonged to West Virgina's Micheal McWhorther Winning 2 gun Both Days .
Match 1 Started of with light rain but that didn't hamper the shooters they came out ready this weekend.
Match 1 Light Gun saw John Anderson ,Jerry Stroup and Micheal McWhorter battling from the start.
John Won LG Score and Overall with Jerry taking top honors in group.
John was shooting a 6bra Bat with a Kreiger Barrel in a McMillan stock with a Night Force Scope Pushing 103 Wheeler Bullets pushed by H 4895 Powder.
Jerry was shooting a 6 Dasher Bat built by Larry Archer with a Brux Barrel on a LRB stock with Night Force Glass watching the Vapor Trail 103's stay close together.
In Heavy gun it didn't take long to for everyone to see that Micheal McWhorter had not just drove down from West Virgina to eat goat nose this man had came to win and that's what he did in Group Score and Hg Overall Beating out his traveling partner Logan Loudin in score and new comer Recy Lillard (Rember that name because I have the feeling you may hear it more this year) in Group.
Micheal was shooting a 6mm Borden built by Plainfield with a Bartlein Barrel on a Shehan Stock looking through a March Scope watching the Beger 108s go near the center about every time.
The Tactical class came out with a good crowd for the first match of 2024 with a total of 9 shooters
but it was the man that we only know as Squirrel Thompson from where ever he was the day before that showed up and dominated the Tactical Class both Days Robert Smith and Roger Grizzard tried hard in match one but came up short. In Match 2 it was the middle Georgia lumber jack Kevin McGowen that tried his best to cut down the Squirrel tree but came up short . These guys and gals had a great time and this class is growing every match.
The Squirrel held them off shooting a 6br Kauger built by Ronnie Milford with a Bartlein Barrel in a master Piece Arms chassis with a night Force scope using varget powder pushing wheeler 103's.
Match 2 Started of a little foggy but that didn't slow down the shooters at all the came to shoot eat and have Fun which I might add we did do that.
John Anderson won LG Score with a 194 just edging out The Rookie sensation from WV Logan Loudin
John was shooting a 6bra Bat with a Kreiger Barrel in a McMillan stock with a Night Force Scope Pushing 103 Wheeler Bullets pushed by H 4895 Powder.
Stevie "The Champ" Salter Won LG Group 1.974 beating out Alabama's own Jerry Stoup 2.262 .
Stevie was shooting a Larry Archer built 6bra Bat with a Kreiger Barrel on a Wheeler Stock Looking Through Night Force Scope with Vapor Trail 103s.
Heavy Gun match 2 it was Michael McWhorter dominating again John Anderson and Stevie Salter tried but could not knock Micheal off the top in Group, Score and HG Overall.
The Best Targets of the weekend went to
HG Score Michael McWhorter with a 50 1.137
HG Group Jerry Stroup .709 ( First Ever Freedom Benchrest Dead Eye Award winner at The RWB)
LG Score and Group John Anderson with a 50 1.148.
Shout out to Junior Shooter Logan Loudin on a outstanding first time traving match showing. We may have converted him over to a Georgia Bulldog keep up the good work young man.
A complete list of results can be found @ www.freedombenchrest.com.
Can not finish without Thanking Tators bar and Grill for outstanding food I hear a rumor that they may be featured on a very popular Cooking show in the future.
Thanks again to each and every person that comes and supports the RWB you all are like family to us and we appreciate it.
On a very serious note we have a few shooters that are going through some health issues as well as loss of a love ones so please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers
Our Next match is a UBR 100 and 200 yard match this coming Saturday at 9 am .
