Manatee 600yd Gong Match Results 1/21/2018

We had beautiful weather today with temperatures in the mid 70's and lots of sunshine. Conditions were a little tricky today and fooled a number of us... but they did NOT fool Doug or Keith!

For those of you that aren't familiar with our format, we shoot unlimited sighters before record strings start, then no more sighters allowed. The match is a total of 20 shots for record in 4 strings. Bench guns (IBS Heavy Gun rules) shoot at 5" gongs, and AR Platform guns shoot at 8" gongs. It's a very relaxed match and is always a good time.

Here are the results...

No fouling shots either?

There is a sighter time before the match. Then all is stopped while gongs are painted. Once the match starts it's 5 shots in four different rounds. NO SIGHTERS after the start of the match. You will have to wait four times, including the start, while gongs are painted and the shooting starts again. During that time you will have to observe condition changes and make a cold, calculated start. First shot counts each time.

Doug Bell was spectacular getting in his first shot all four rounds. His 19 is the highest anyone has done under the new four-round format.

Larry, I think it would be fun as well and add another skill to the shoot if you had a separate pot for cold bore hits before the sighter period???
Great shooting guys!

Something to promote for the future. We are now listed to only one day a month for gong. Many like a "pot". They would have to know before the shoot. Something to bring up.

Not a whole lot of attendance for some reason. Bet it was because we had to move to a Sunday. I had to go to church Saturday to shoot and this was the first time we ever had a Sunday shoot. Change may not always be a good thing.

Have yet to make time to find a load for your new build. Did have a positive ladder test after the match. Made both a seating depth and lighter load change to find a strong horizontal window. Expect to try that next week on one weight class in IBS, if I can make the shoot.

I shoot these matches, and really like being able to shoot my rifles enough to be able to figure out what I need to do to shoot competitively. This game attracts shooters that are not able to shoot much before coming to a match. Lots of shooters like to be able to shoot (practice) before a match. To get more shooters you need to keep the shooters happy, and coming back. We have very few rules, and I feel, not being able to practice before a gong match (more shooting) would be a turn off to some shooters, causing some shooters to not return. I shoot IBS and it is a real relief to be able to shoot a rifle match without all those dang rules. This a fun shoot and we need to keep it that way. Doug
