Making Your Own Reloading Blocks

I know there are perfectly good cheap reloading blocks on the market and no real reason to make your own but I have a weakness for nice figured wood. I found a nice piece of quilted maple and decided to make a couple reloading blocks from it. It was a bit of a struggle drilling the holes because of the grain and a couple of them tore out a little but it’s still nicer than what I had. I thought some of you might enjoy them.

Nice!

Very nice sir!….. did you try taping the wood before drilling to reduce tear out?…very beautiful wood thanks for sharing

I didn’t think about taping it. I don’t work with wood much so I’ll have to try and remember that next time.
One thing I did learn is that a cheap end mill in a drill press spun fast makes a really nice flat bottomed hole. Even the cheap end mills cut wood well. Plus you can get them in just about any size.

I have made numerous loading blocks from left over prefinished ash tongue and groove flooring boards I had left over. I normally rip the tongue and groove off. They make nice blocks.
Yours are very nice. Like the figure in the wood. Well done.
