Making adapter to shoot 17HMR .920 barrel in 700 REM

I have couple of .920 barrels that I want to try in a project rifle 17VHA . I made one adapter already from a barrel shank cutoff . Just need some Ideas from the pros here. thx! Mark

That's what I was thinking . Then I remembered a project many years ago , I made the adapter , old barrel stub , offset . Eccentric like the mauser 22 rifle . It uses a central firing pin with the barrel offset .
Too much work !
I was hoping the op wasn't going to use rimfire barrels for Centerfire cartridges .

Sorry guys ! I guess my post was not very clear on what I was trying to do . I am not building a rimfire rifle . I was was using some 17HMR clark barrels that were made for 10/22 magnum rifle conversions. they use Lothar walther blanks and they work great for 17 caliber centerfire conversions but the .920 dia barrel is to small for 700 Rem action so I need to make a adapter to use them . Just wondering about some adapter ideas. thx! Mark D

I would advise against using rimfire barrel blanks for Centerfire ! If you call the manufacture to find out the type of steel used I doubt it is the same as Centerfire .
Your talking about using double the pressure , more than double the diam of the case , I wouldn't do it . I've not given actual pressures or case diam as too many to exist .

LW might be different, but as Ggmac said...most makers use a different steel...at least for their 22RF stuff. I'm thinking 1137 stainless.

But are they the same as Centerfire ? As having seen a gun barrel , receiver blow up and injure a couple of people , I absolutely would want to have it in writing from the manuf. as to the steel used . An accident is one thing , negligence is another .
I've beenretired from riflesmith work for aprx 15 + years , I still maintain liability insurance .

Do a search on BRC, Gene Beggs made a collar for a barrel so he could rotate the barrel in different positions. This should do what you're looking for.

Stiller makes a reducer that Killough's sells for $50 that screws into a 700/40X receiver and has a center hole with threads of 750x16tpi. These are intended for use in 22LR benchrest rifles.

You would have to make your own determination if the reducer and thread size would be safe for your application.

I am thinking about buying 2 and using one as intended and modifying the other to use as a bbl nut. I have an Annie 2013 bbl coming and I would thread the long smooth bbl shank to fit the reducer and then use the bbl nut to set the HS. Cutting a cone breech would also be required. This is assuming that the Anschutz bore hasn't been damaged since it left my possession :) . All this would be installed in my 40x that needs a new, cheapish bbl.

Here's the page with the bushing.

Thx for reply ! I made one from cut off barrel shank. the barrel I used was a AR 15 Pac Nor barrel that had been chambered in 17VHA , I used the same AR barrel tenon 16tpi threads and threaded adapter for that. I went ahead and made a Aluminum sleeve type tension barrel and covered the gas port with sleeve. I glued sleeve with a 3M type epoxy used in autobody for bonding body panels on autos. WOW ! this gun shoots some amazing groups! will post some pics later. thx! Mark
