magnum small rifle primer

Ran out of the Federal 205M and CCI benchrest small primers and substituted CCI Magnum small rifle primer that I had never used, in 7mmTCU loads. The groups doubled in size for nearly every load. Would not have believed the Magnum primer would have such an unfavorable impact on group size. Wonder if anyone uses magnum small rifle primers? Other than cold weather hunting . . . do they have a purpose?

Richard, I use the CCI SR Mag. primers in my 6 X 47 Shehane. That is a 6.5 X 47 Lapua necked down to a 6mm and shoulders blown forward. Bill Shehane built my rifle and told me to use them and I am getting good groups with them but some loads just don't like the hotter primer.

I use the Russian small rifle magnum primers in all my 6br's and they shoot pretty good, and with lower SD's and velocity spreads than any other primer I have tried.......
As soon as I need to load more 221 Fireballs for a couple of my factory XP's I'll try the Russians in them too.....
I have always used the Remington 7 1/2's in them but that just might change.......
