Magnification? Scopes vs Binoculars

Is the magnification the same?? If you have a pair of binoculars at 10 x 50, is it the same as having a 10x scope?

The X represents the number of times the image is magnified.

A 10x scope should magnify the same as a 10x binocular. Some manufactures hedge a bit on how much their products actually magnify. May be 10.5x or 9.5x.
