Magazine feeding 6 Dasher

Just curious how everyone is getting their mag fed 6 Dasher rifle to cycle 100%.

Looking to consolidate my reloading components and getting rid of my 6.5 creedmoor barrel and switching it out to a 6 Dasher.

Keep in mind feeding is only part of the equation. There have been issues with extracting too. Just built a BRX repeater. We got lucky and everything works very good, but have read about a few that werent so fortunate.

Ejection is the hard part. But can be over come. But that is the same if your single shot or repeater and you want it to eject. It is nice that guys make parts to alter the mags now. Several buddies have 6 br s now that repeat all run flawless. I think 6 total rifles. I have gone thru several barrels on one of mine if that gives you an idea of quantity shot thru it. We have only used AI mags. One guy used a different brand I don't recall what and the feed lip length didn't work out. And I am sorry I don't recall the details of what didn't work about it either.

I use AI AW double stack mags solely. They cycle in both my actions 100% feeding and extraction. No spacer, no mag modification. The trick is loading them towards the front of the mag. Many tactical shooters use this approach without using a spacer and do so successfully. Hope this helps.

Straight AICS works 100%, AW mags need a shortened follower and rear spacer. You may need to widen the feedlips a little. I helped develop and and test kits like those. We built them for 6BR which does in fact need the kit. Dasher does not. I have had not great luck with either of the kits listed above. Specifically the follower nose-dives. Our prototype kits are still superior.

PM me if you want some more info.

Here is a picture of a very recent build that I did using mag-pul stock and p-mags and it feeds 6 dasher like a champ. Granted I do have a pacific tool and guage one piece bolt with sako extractor but this thing shoots and functions like a champ. I'm not really wanting to sell it but I'd probably let it go for $1650 plus shipping without scope.

The straight aics is far from 100%... that's the reason there is any demand for the mag modification kits to begin with. The PVA kits my friends and I have have not had nosedive issues at all. Not even a little.

As for a repeater, feeding is only part of the problem. That's actually the easier part to fix. It's the ejection that is the most hit or miss for guys in my experience. Getting the empties to kick out completely, 100% of the time is not a given. Same barreled action with 2 different bolts don't eject the same for me. The br is even less likely for eject without a problem. There are plenty of people's actions out there that do it, but I would venture a guess that there are more out there that don't. Moving the shoulder up just the little bit to make a brx and dashed can make all the difference in the world.

A loaded round to test feeding and an empty to test ejection are about the only way to know 100% if it's going to work. I might build my next one on a Win 70 crf action, controlled feed, fixed ejector, and a comer breach. Seems like a winner.

I bought the Primal Rights AICS mag conversion for my new dasher, works great BUT,,, I run 110 SMK's which are long. Bullets tips are awfully close to interfering with the binder plate in the mag. Was advised by Primal Rights not to sand the rear spacer for more clearance due to the construction of the rear spacer being 3D printed,,,plenty of clearance for 105 class bullets though

+1 on the p mags. Work fine for me as is. Maybe slightly better loaded to the front. I also put a 7/16" shim in the back to make them perfect . When you mod them like this you have to move the spring forward and cut the follower down . It's way easy to do. but they do feed reliable in stock form. I like the plastic mag as it doesn't scratch the brass.
Can't remember the part # but there just the 5 round 308 ai mags

Also I haven't had any problems with ejection. Just run the bolt like you should. Not hard not slow. Feeds and eject fine from two rem 700 and two Kelblys Atlas actions

The ejection issue can be tuned if its the plunger style ejector. .005 longer can make all the difference. If it sticks proud of bolt face you may have to angle the top a little so the case head does catch on it on the way into the chamber. Have also had to reduce the amount a M16 style extractor holds onto the case. All of this is a little goes a long way. If the ejector won't hold the case against the action side wall say half way back the ejector isn't long enough and it won't work reliably. Tune it once and your done for the life of the rifle.

I am using the MagPull 308 AI style mag with my BRX. I did a quick mod to put a 1/4"ish spacer in. Because of the mag config and the spring size it can just float in the mag with no ill effects. The stock spring still fits with no bind at all. I did a little dremmel work to make a groove for the spring to lay in on both ends. Took me about 1/2 hour to modify 2 tens and a 5 rounder. The plastic is so slick and the follower is at a perfect angle for this little round. There is tons of room for bullet length. If I really wanted to, I can remove the spacer and put a stock follower in and good to go.

I did a bunch of dry tests a while back, but yesterday I fed everything that I live fired, out of a mag and it was flawless. Actually I may remove a little ejector spring to reduce the brass fling...was chasing brass around if I wasn't careful.

I am using the M-16 style ejector, but my buddy has the same setup with the stock 700 ejector. Those plastic mags are the bomb!

Group of us here in Colorado have been shooting Dashers on repeaters for some time. R700 actions, Pierce actions, Defiance actions, Bighorn actions, Tempest action.

I have just over 7000 Dasher rounds through my two older pre-TL2 Bighorn actions. One action AW cut the other not. Feeds 100% through stock 10rd AICS mags with the feed lips slightly bent, no other modification. AW mags need to either load the rounds forward about a 1/4" or add a spacer/cut the follower. Just had my 4th and 5th barrel chambered, had my gunsmith number the barrels for me. Love the Dasher!

What's been barrel life for you? Certainly not 3500rds a barrel.....?

Pulled 1st barrel at 2200rds, 2nd at 2400. 1st signs of flyer....didn't mess around chasing a few hundred more rounds dumping more powder in the case. Did that with 6x47's. Both using h4895. Barrels I'm shooting now prefer Varget, maybe a few more rounds of barrel life with slower Varget?

offgrid - just curious...are you shooting shorter barrels suppressed or 24-26" barrels? I've yet to hear any numbers from anyone shooting shorter (20-22") barrels suppressed so thought I'd ask.
