Magazine box - model 700

I had my rem cdl sf 30.06 bedded in an HS and noticed that the magazine box is a little loose in the new stock. It appears that the new stock must be a little deeper than the original. Is this normal?

Yes. Some stock makers also offer longer action screws if this "depth" is longer than the standard screws will accommodate.
If It were mine, and the box isn't excessively short, I'd consider "bedding" the bottom of the box with some devcon in the bottom metal. Let the Devcon fill the void left when the magazine box is fully seated in the action recess. It might even make it easier to remove and reinstall the bottom metal when doing a full "action off" cleaning. The magazine box and bottom metal will then be one piece and when inserted in the stock will be easier to mate with the action recess.

I am of course assuming that this is a BDL with hinged floorplate and doesn't have a removable magazine.

it is a little known fact that the bullet box on the rem 700 is not suppose to fit tight .you should be able to move it slightly when in the stock and the screws are tightened down . if it is not this could account for an accuracy problem by disstorting the middle of the receiver . T.R.
