looking to buy on of these action for a build and looking for opinions, My budget is 1000.00 for action no more.. rifle will be for target shooting 100 to 300 yards thanks in advance....

I'm in the same boat. Looking at the two actions. As of right now, I like the kauger a bit better. I sent kauger an email about cock on close and they mentioned the VPR is designed to have no cock on close with trigger tech triggers. Also it has changeable bolt heads for under 100 bucks. So that's another win for me.

However, the mackbros comes in a single shot, and that's a big selling point in my mind. I wonder how much a bolt replacement for mack bros is.

Here’s a Mack Bros single shot I built for a friend being shot this weekend at 1K. no cock on close it actually has some fall on close like a Bat. Nice action I will definitely build on more.

I just built a 6.5-06 on a Mack Brothers EVO 2 long action and love it. It came with a Triggertech Special 2 Stage trigger and I think the combo and the 20MOA rail were around $900. I like the integral recoil lug. I like the trigger hanger and the position of the bolt stop. I haven't found a single thing to complain about And the rifle shoots lights out though I'm still working on load development because I like to tinker.

My buddy just called Mack Bros to order an extra trigger hanger and the come have 3 different ones to adjust to adjust hand off. $25. And extra complete bolt assembly’s with fire control are only $350!

Built my 338LM on the Kauger VPR SST magnum action and couldn't be happier. Tim and the entire staff at Kauger Arms are top notch. For those who want singles shot actions take a good look at the Kauger BR actions. Some of the best 1000 Yard BR shooters today are shooting and winning with them.

One thing I will say about my EVo 2. I mount a lot of optics for folks. I bought the 20moa one piece picatinny mount. I centered my reticle and mounted the scope on their rail with a set of Seekins tactical rings. I only had to move two clicks to get my horizontal zero and I had exactly 20 moa of vertical. i don't get that lucky with receivers bored that straight very often.

I have both and have built for customers on both. Both are really great.

I've sold a lot of Mack Bros and Kaugers to my customers by referral.
