These books go beyond machines, they are the single largest collection of information, technique, methods,calculations , formulas, in one book, that covers most anything you need in a shop or engineering, environment; threads , gears, fits finishes,angles , tapers, material compositions just to name a few , cutting tools their uses feed and speed recommendations, and calculations., on and on....
Most of the information is easily usable in in both environment.
