M77 MkII LA DBM install

I am posting this so if anyone is thinking about doing something similar there is something that comes up on a search. I have found that PTG and CDI are the only companies that make a DBM for a Ruger M77 MkII. I don't think that CDI makes them anymore. This rifle was my first exploration into precision shooting of any kind and i have wanted to install a DBM for years. Finally decided to give the PTG stealth a try. My hopes was that it would be near drop in and use unmodified magazines, but this was a short lived hope. After a bunch of inletting, filing, sanding, and test fits it does work. For this rifle I plan to use Magpul AICS LA mags because they are easy to modify and arent $100 a pop. The pictures show the main modifications of removing some material in the front and back of the magazine and narrowing the feed lips a little. This would not change its function if it were to be used in another rifle.

The main issue with the DBM for a ruger is the same issue with bedding and stock fitting, the angled front action screw and the more complex bedding surface. With the angled front screw if the bottom of the action isnt the right distance from the DBM the angles won't be right. Luckily my mcmillan inlet was just close enough that I could get it done. YMMV.

After final fitting the rifle will feed all rounds smoothy and picks them up like a controlled feed should. It ejects the first four no problem but does have an issue with the base of an empty case dropping out on the last round. If you work the bolt fast it doesn't matter but I plan to fix this by printing a new follower that has a ridge in the front that supports the base of the last case better.

Glad it worked for you, i did not have the same results. I bought from PGT and have bought lots of things over the years. The lady I ordered from assured me that she checked with the shop guys and the Ruger metal would work on a 77MK2 VT. Well it will work on a MK2 but not the VT. The stock was finally pieced back together and the original bottom metal reinstalled. I found out the VT has a longer receiver than the standard MK2. Not too happy with PGT. still have bottom metal and 2 magazines.

Still have the PTG Bottom Metal and Magazines? I'd love to purchase and try my hand at a conversion.
