M1A in 6.5 Creedmoor

Coastguardchas here in SoCal, A nib S.A M1A in 6.5 Creedmoor is in my hands, still unfired. Will break in with Hdy factory loads, then reload with lapua cases and probably barnes tsx bullets, any rel 16 or imr 4350 loads recommended that will keep my op rod healthy??

Nothing shot from a creedmoor will keep your 308 op rod healthy except an adjustable gas plug.

Here is a post with the results of a test with factory ammo. Maybe you can get a box of those, check the velocity then load that exact bullet. Id say those pressures are safe or springfield wouldnt have sent it out. Im sure they hammered it with all the popular factory ammo

I wouldn’t worry about the op rod. Flip the gun belly up and look at gas system. See a hole? The M14 is not the frail made of bubble gum M1 Garand.

Consider gas port pressure. Design parameter is 13-15 K psi iirc. Factory load might exceed that ? Without mechanical mods, it is generally recommended to favor relatively faster powders for bullet weight to keep port pressure in spec for longevity. Modeling port pressure on quickload by input of ballpark 13” bbl for muzzle pressure might be of value in determining powder choice.
