M14 Coyote practice.

Old photos, but it sure was a hoot shooting Coyote target at 100 yds with one of my M14s. Shot prone with a bipod. 2 separate 10 shot groups on this target. Same rifle and position that has held the 10 dot record for over 10 years. LRB M-25 with Kreiger heavy 1-11 all TRW parts. JAE Gen II chassis topped off with Leupold MK4 3.5-10x40mm. Bipod is GGG heavy and mono-pod is Accutrac. Load was home rolled 135 Begers in Berdan DAG cases. That stinker out at 5 was the first shot, got my attention. Whatta Hobby!

Was 1st shot out at 5 O'clock cold bore
After cleaning the rifle and needing a fouler shot?
Or After a pre-fouled barrel and just the way it acted on the 1st Cold Bore?

Def good important info to know the characteristics of

No Sir, that was not a cold bore shot. It happened to be the 1st out of a fresh mag. I knew better. Usually when I am ready to shoot a 10 shot string, I load 15 in the mag and shoot 5 for warm up and then group. One of the factors to consider with the M14 is the first shot out of a fresh mag is charged by pulling the op rod back and letting it fly to chamber. All other rnds in the mag are loaded with more pressure from the moving bolt. Whatta Hobby!

Nice shooting. Of course, I never did meet an EX-Marine that couldn't shoot well. ;)

There nothing more fun for me at the range than practicing real world hunting situations. For me, it's shooting off the cross sticks. Even though I can't hunt anymore due to health problems, I still find it enjoyable just to prove to myself that I can still do it and I hold out the hope that someday I may be able to return to the field, even in a limited capacity.
