M&P 10 barrel help (Smith & Wesson)

Apparently Smith & Wesson has a proprietary set up on their M&P10 (AR-10) rifle and the barrel.

I have already contacted Smith and Wesson and they not very helpful.

Do you know which barrel manufacturer has a barrel that will work with M&P10?

From my research so far, I may need to change the BCG as well.

Thank you
Edward

There's a lot of info on the S&W forums about this; though on my $ I'd be calling smith again for a warranty issue if the system isn't working from the factory.

I'm curious as to what's going on that you want to replace it; or are you just looking for an improvement overall?

As for upgrades; the large format was never standardized, so assembly of parts is doable; but finding the right pieces to work together takes some research, measuring, skills. My understanding is the barrel is not proprietary, but the barrel extension is; and some DPMS parts could be machined to fit, but don't quote me on that. I'd expect that in your barrel swap endeavour, a gunsmith will be involved; or a change in platform may be recommended.

It has about 2500 rounds through it. I like to have something better lined up & ready to go.

Good info on the S&W website, however, I have called 4 of the recommended barrel makers and none have confirmed a solid solution.

I have no connection or affiliation with this company. I'm supplying information for you to use in the pursuit of an answer to your problem.

From X-Caliber's website:

Ordered stainless steel barrel, 30 caliber chambered in 308 Win., 18'' barrel length with mid length gas system, cryogenics and RCA bolt carrier group. Worked very well with Smith & Wesson M&P 10. Extension fit very snug into receiver witch is a good thing.

I suggest calling X-Caliber to discuss what you need to see if they can help.

you should be able to remove the barrel extension on your S&W barrel extension, may need some kroil and/or heat, worse case scenario the barrel stub can be removed from the extension with a boring bar and lathe. Once the gunsmith has the barrel extension in hand they can measure the threads and machine your new barrel.
