M-16 extractor on .223 Rem 700

Well im having my gun worked over and one of the services I purchased was a M-16 extractor install.

I just cant seem to find info on .223 M-16 extractors for Rem 700s...

I hear its an obvious upgrade on .308 but need to know if it works with a .223 boltface as relible as it does with the .308

Fingi, on page 2 I have asked the same question with varying degrees of answers...some say yes, some say no and some say it can't be done. If you indeed have your 223 bolt done with an M16 extractor, I would be interested to know how well it works out for you and who did it. Thanks

There must be someone with a Howa action in .223 that can look to as how Howa does it. Howa has the nearest thing to a mini 16 extractor right out of the box.
You could call Badger Ordnance or PTG to find out too.

DickE...haven't talked to Badger but PT&G won't install the M16 in a 223 bolt...apparently Gre-Tan used to install them but they no longer provide that service for 223 bolts. I guess the only alternative is a Sako extractor...I have no problems with the factory Remington extractor except that when using the Fireball brass for the various fireball cartridge combinations/wildcats, you either have to have a bolt SPECIFICALLY for the fireball cartridge or go with a Sako extractor to get "positive" extraction/ejection...that was my only issue for my 20VT cartridge. Probably hijacking the OP's thread here and don't want to run it off in the ditch, but will watch this thread and see if Fingi is successful in getting an M16 installed and it working out properly.

Just received email back from Badger...their extractor cannot be done on a Remington 223 bolt.
