Lyman Pro series dies for pistol

I just bought a set of Lyman Pro series dies from Scheel's got a awesome deal 189.00 for the set these things are pretty nice I especially like the crimp die which is micrometer adjustable for pretty repeatable taper crimp. I also have been living under a rock because I was not aware of the M series expanders that Lee and Lyman are using all my older dies are RCBS and Redding and have the taper style plugs so I bought a bunch of Lyman M series expanders and set up for 40/10 mm and they are so much better IMO than the flare style plugs especially for gas checked bullets which I do load a lot of. I sent RCBS a message about replacing my old plugs with the new style especially for my original 454 dies and he said they were on order so I will replace the plugs when I can get them. Anyone here using them ?

The M style expanders are wonderful to use for two good reasons. They allow you to set the bullet in straight before seating and permits consistent neck tension. Both important for accurate loads. I’m glad you finally discovered them! Lol

Me too when I loaded some 40 S&W the other day I almost did not even have to put a taper crimp on because the case did not have that bell on the end of it I thought for a second I must have messed up something ! lol

They also allow for a decent amount of flare without way overdoing the mouth itself, which is handy for lead bullets. The stepped opening allows the bullet to sit on top securely prior to seating, but the lip of the mouth doesn't get overworked as much.

As an aside, NOE Bullet Moulds occasionally has non-standard M-type expander plugs if you find yourself looking for different dimensions.
