SOLD Lyman "Ideal Model" Little Sharp Rifle 38/55

Silver $$ Contributor
Manufactured in Italy by Chiappa Firearms, Lyman’s Ideal Model Sharps has a blued barrel, a polished finish receiver, hammer, lever and double-set triggers, as well as a brightly finished, shotgun-style butt plate.

The rifle came with the Lyman’s globe front and adjustable tang rear sight (included in package). Scope blocks mounted for Unertl-stye mounts and William’s dovetail blank in front sight slot.

Rifle has a very nice European walnut stock and Schnabel-type forearm. This mini-Sharps is attractively decorated on the receiver with laser-engraved artwork reminiscent of the buffalo hunting era, and the butt plate bears an attractive laser engraving of the Lyman bighorn sheep circular logo with the legend “Lyman, 1878.”

Made in June 2011 and I acquired it in New Old Stock condition in June 2024. Has about 50 rounds of low velocity lead rounds through it and rifle is in perfect shape. Complete with sights, manuals and accessories.

***** Please note: rifle DOES NOT include the scope or mounts *****

Woof!!

I remember buying one of these when they first came out. It shot very well. Like you, I did not like the idea of parting with it, but a fancy custom HiWall in 38-55 by noted gunsmith Ron Long of Denver came my way. That and a Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe on a last minute cancellaction with a free tag popped up.

GLWS,

With a bit or trigger futzing, it would shoot 10-shot cast bullets under 2" at 200 yards. Scoped, like this one shows.

Yes… I shoot a 250gn RNFP with .5gn Dacron filler and 11.5gn 2400… and with the scope on sticks & bag can routinely get approximately 1 MOA at 200 & 100 yds!

Good!!! I have a Shiloh Sharps Model of 1877 ordered. Two and a half years ago. It is finally under production assembly. 38-55 of course.

You will like this rifle.
