Lyman E-Zee Prime

Flouncer

What the heck it works for me !!
My original small size fitting loads rifle and pistol too high to even close a bolt or fire a round in a Ruger P-95. The replacement same thing. The large rifle fitting, same thing. Their customer service phone closes at 4 Eastern. So at 1:08 Pacific time they are gone. I carefully checked the box LMAO Thanks a lot Lyman !!

Designed by Lyman Engineering, USA

Manufactured in China

I dont normally lash out and bash a company, but when I do, it SURE FEELS GREAT

Are ya answering your customer service phone now ???

With the unit empty, fully squeeze the handle. Does the seating plug extend above flush with the bottom of the shellholder? If it does, it likely needs a bit more muscle. If it doesn't your complaint is probably valid.

I use an RCBS Universal, and can feel a slight increase increase in resistance as the primer approaches fully seated, but just before the handle hits the stop. Squeezing a bit more yields a primer seated below flush (it feels the same with the plunger unscrewed a bit to get more depth, so I'm saying it's bottomed out correctly.) This is not trying to say yours is the same; just putting it here as a comparison.

Thanks divington but I don't understand your recommendation.

" Does the seating plug extend above flush with the bottom of the shellholder? If it does, it likely needs a bit more muscle"

That's backwards. If the plug extends above the shellholder, it is too high and therefore extended too high. More pressure extends it even farther, in theory at least. I have used Lee exclusively since I started loading in 1996. A primer seater, for hunting grade precision, should be simple non adjustable and perfect every time. You shouldn't have to think about it or F with it. This the Lee was. At a competitive or "precision" level I appreciate adjustable units like 21st Century and Frankford Arsenal.

I called Lyman early this AM, 7 AM PST and they answered right away. They said they recognize that their is a problem with the hand press and will supply one free shellholder to address the problem. And it's on backorder. And I load multiple case sizes requiring, apparently 4 different Lyman shellholders at cost to me, plus shipping. And ALL their shellholders are on backorder. The customer service rep said he didn't know what a 5.56 NATO was ???? so I assured him a 223 Remington would work

Thinking about upgrading the whole mess to a upper tier unit, K&M or 2qst century that can use universal shell holders. and is adjustable.

That's backwards. If the plug extends above the shellholder, it is too high and therefore extended too high.

If the plug does not extend above the bottom of the shellholder, there is no way to get the primer to below flush with the case head. Remember that there will some gap from the shellholder base to the case head (with the case being retained by the extractor groove against the upper part of the shellholder), so the seater plug has to overcome that gap, plus however far into the case you want the primer to sit.

Note that "above", "below" etc. all assume the case is mouth-up in the primer tool when being primed.

I use Lyman shell holders with the Lyman priming tool. Their shell holders seem to be .001-.002 thinner, bottom of base to top, than other shell holders. Using Lyman shell holders gives me a a consistent .003 seating depth with a full squeeze. You could take a little off the bottom of the shell holder but that would change your shoulder bump, when sizing with the same holder.

Thanks Tank. I have a K&M on the way. I think I will learn more about primer depth than I ever wanted to know. Still bummed to see part of Lyman go offshore to meet their perceived market. Chicom is not one of mine for the shooting sports. Their single stage press is great, I tossed the box about a year ago when I got it so not sure where it is manufactured.

Lyman priming tool works fine with Lyman shell holders. There is no way that RCBS/Lee/Redding holders will work correct due different height. E-Zee prime is fine tool, only you have to use Lyman holders.

Juppe, you mean there is a literal or casual industry standard and Lyman matches that except they are off a few thou ? Exact same shape and dimensions but just enough different so that they F-up when used with another brand ? I think it is more rational to think they farmed their hand press out to China and didn't follow up and QC of their product. Don't you ?

I have that priming tool and when first tried with RCBS/Lee there was just bold primers. When I borrowed Lyman holders from my friend and tried them there was no problems at all. Personally I think that they are advertising that tool wrong way when they claim that it will work industry standard holders.

So I got Lyman shell holders from Lyman after speaking with customer service and loaded my first batch of small pistol with the new Lyman Press rod part and new Lyman holders. They provided one holder gratis and I paid for 3 additional. All the rounds/primers seat proud. So proud they wont fire. The rifle primers, SH #2 the primers are so proud the case wobbles on a flat surface. This debacle has set me back about 13 months over the course of time. My first reloading tool venture out of the Lee Precision Inc world with the small exception of Wilson and RCBS has left a bad taste in my mouth. Sending the whole Lyman batch back to them just to clear the clutter of failure from my reloading. Cant wait to whack the 30 rounds with the bullet puller hammer.
