Lyman Digital Bore Scope any good? worth the $200?

I agree with the above. I paid a little more a year ago when I won a gift cert at a competition for a local gun shop. The biggest thing is I wish you could dim it a little more than it allows. Sometimes the brightness is a little much for good detail. But its helped me verify cleaning techniques, and has good detail when looking at the lands and such to see how the barrel is wearing. I think it's a great investment.

Recently one of my barrels had started copper fouling at a young age. After cleaning I had looked at found there were hard carbon deposits that weren't getting cleaned out. I changed habits, and cleaned again, no more copper fouling after I removed that burnt on carbon

They are coming ought widt with an HD i hear.

There's no mention of new models in there current new product listing.
Do bare in mind, the monitor to there borecam got changed/updated from the originals, a few years back shortly after there first release, and can't help but wonder if that is what you heard about?

I bought a Lyman when they first were available. Wiped the mirror off mine cleaning it with soft patch dampened with brake cleaner... my fault. Called Lyman for a replacement mirror.... no part or repair available.

I bought a Hawkeye replacement.

Be careful what you clean the Lyman with.... it's a non-repairable disposal item.

I agree with everything that's been said above.

All I would add is, don't go looking for trouble. You will likely be astonished by some of what you are going to see, particularly in any factory barrels you scope. Just use it as a inspection tool. If a barrel shoots, don't go trying to fix what the target says isn't broken. :)

" If a barrel shoots, don't go trying to fix what the target says isn't broken. "

Your first task when you get the Borecam should be to accept the above quotation as your golden rule for using the scope.

I would suggest picking 8 or 10 of your rifles that shoot very good by your standards. Scope them and make notes of everything you see that your common sense, the internet and intuition tell you why this barrel should not shoot. Your list may be alarmingly long.

Now, the important thing to do at this point is to remember that the rifles you just scoped are you best shooting rifles as verified by tight groups and high scores. The target is the judge and jury on how your barrel is performing. The bore scope will let you know how your cleaning protocol works, how rapidly the firechecking may be progressing and if you are developing a carbon ring. The scope is also valuable diagnosing a problem when you have one of those Aw Crap moments mid string in a match.

My borecam gets used at each cleaning to check the throat.

Certainly worth the dollars for me, I like to have a look down barrels before and after cleaning mainly. It does take some time to know what your looking at, initially everything looks bad!! Buy one and use it often you will learn a little more about your own cleaning regime if nothing else.

I would add taking “as found” pictures of the bores in those good shooting rifles. Gives one a future reference for cleaning and determining the deterioration rate. Wish I had 8 or 10 rifles... let alone good shooting ones!
