LV to HV Conversion--Where to put the extra weight?

I finally scored a used LV 6PPC Panda rifle thanks to a lot of folks on this forum. I plan to try to learn to shoot as it is, but ultimately I want a 13.5 lb rifle. The rifle with rings but no scope weighs an even 9 lb. It has a weight system for the butt (not included in the 9 lb weight) and a 21.5" bbl. So I have a 4 lb 8 oz budget for a scope and (maybe) a heavier/longer barrel. Do I get a big variable scope or a HV contour barrel or maybe both? How long a barrel is too long for top accuracy? Thanks for your help.

Try a place called Midwest Tungsten for a piece of 70%/30% or 75%/25% copper tungsten rod. Don't cry when you see the price...it'll only hurt for a little while. The stuff weighs about 1.5 times as much as lead and is machinable. A pic of your existing weight system will help. A HV contour bbl will add almost a lb@24" over most LV barrels and common lengths in a short range br rifle and a NF BR or similar will add about a lb over some of the lighter scopes commonly used on LV builds.. But, ya gotta balance that puppy out well or it'll be evil.

Put a hv barrel on there, add weight to the butt to balance it, then add the rest under the action or in the scope. Remember a hv doesnt HAVE to weigh 13.5- most that win are @12.5lb

The weight in the butt is a steel bar that weighs 8 oz. I could put more in there with lead or tungsten I suppose or cut some off. Is there a “too long” length for a barrel to be accurate.
