Lucid 6-24x scopes

Has anyone tested or even used one of these scopes? I have heard very little about them and was interested in them. They seem to pack a lot of features I like into a inexpensive package.

wyoming.260: Do yourself a favor, especially if you are serious about spending your money on one of these. Do a Google search, then scroll down the page to the Amazon entry. There are 3 reviews posted, none of them complimentary. "Made in China" of couse, as I expected. That alone is enough for me to ignore it. Other comments: The picture is a lie. Turrets not as pictured. Scope is not waterproof. Lens was loose in "my" scope. Color distortion. Fuzzy at higher settings. Whole thing feels cheap. Called the representative and he was rude, and did not even know the difference between focus and parralax adjustment. I could go on, but why bother.

This "scope" is most likely made at the same factory that is pumping out the fake Leupold scopes that are being sold on e-bay, amazon, etc. Buy it, and you're on your own. Might as well take the funds that would be spent to buy it, and flush them down the toilet.

There are far better quality companies to buy from at that price point, so why waste your money on something that is unproven or has such a disparity in reviews between different sights.

It's hard for the average man to buy quality optics because the price is so high. Wouldn't we all would like to see a quality optic at a low price, but that's not likely to happen. I have been tempted in the past by the lure of cheap scopes promising great performance but so far I have been able to resist the urge. Read the reviews... it is a crap shoot, you may get a scope that's serviceable or you may get a dud and the chances favor the latter. Save your pennies for the real thing as others have said wasting money on a cheap scope is false economy.

MK 19: You covered what I should have in my comments. These "things" are priced at $384, and for that price a very good Nikon, Leupold, Sightron, Burris,Weaver, etc. etc. can be bought. If willing to buy used, especially with lifetime warranties like those included with Leupold's, an even higher quality scope can be bought for the same cost.

All these scopes are made by reliable companies that have been in the business for many years, with established records.

Met a newer member at one of my local clubs who had several of the "Made in China", Super Sniper Stealth scopes, and he was commenting how great they were. Several months later saw him again and this time he had one Leupold, and a Weaver. I asked him what happened to the "great" scopes, and he mumbled "They were junk".

Exactly my thoughts on the subject, I would add Vortex to your list as they are another quality company with great service and warrantee.

I don't agree with this assessment. In terms of inflation-adjusted dollars, optics nowadays -- within the entry to mid-level price point -- are a better bargain than they ever have been. The Leupold scopes of the 60s and 70s, on which they built their empire, were made of tube sections, with coated (maybe) optics, and dubious internal adjustments, often requiring you to fish out a coin and turn the friction assembly. Sure, they were guaranteed 'forever', but considering the average hunter might shoot his rifle on two occasions per year, and probably not even know what the adjustments did beyond getting a short-range zero, they were unlikely to ever need work.

A new Honda Accord is a MUCH better car, and less expensive, in terms of inflation-adjusted dollars, than the first new Honda Accord I ever bought -- in Dec/85.

What cost you $100 in 1975 would buy you $427 today (according to a quick inflation calculator I just checked). A $427 scope today will almost certainly have a one-piece maintube, fully multicoated optics, positive/repeatable click adjustments, various reticle choices, and a forever warranty. So, it's a bargain in that respect.

Gently-used scopes from the better makers mentioned are an excellent and affordable alternative. And as I've said before, the most reliable scope I have cost me $244 in 1999. A Sightron SII4-16x42MD. And I would not sell it today for $500, ring marks and all.

I would steer clear of any/all new brands, unless their heritage (e.g. Vortex) is known and credible. And as to Leupold, they're still overpriced and overrated. Flame off, boys and girls; I've had at least twenty of them in the past 15 years, and still have three -- one of which has been back for "repair" (not) twice already. :)

The temptation to buy something that promises a lot for hundreds less than that inflation adjusted $100 does today holds great allure and often leads to disappointment. $427 is not a drop in the bucket for most as $100 wasn't back in the day.

+1 for the vortex on the low to midrange I've got 3 of them and would not hesitate to buy another :)

I covered the Vortex in my etc. etc's. :) The point is, there are so many high quality scopes out there, why would anyone consider a no-name "Made in China"?
