Lucas bore guide---now what bore rod?

OK I ordered a Lucas bore guide, every one said they are one of the best, but Lucas won't suggest a bore rod. So, I will ask you experts what I need for my new Savage 16 300WSM. What rod is best? Brushes and all-round solvent. Thanks to all for the help.

Here is a good start on the first half of the question. Just do a search on this site and you will find all kinds of info. Read up on previous posts and hit us with questions you have on the details.

And welcome to the forum!

I like Bore Tech rods. Great handles and they will spin forever. I have Lucas guides for every gun I own. Make sure you tell him what the diameter of the rod you are using so he can make the insert diameter to match the rod.

You pretty much can't go wrong with a Dewey. I use the .27 cal & up sized rod for my 7mm and larger bores and use Lucas bore guides. You could use the smaller diameter rod, but I feel like the "springiness" of the smaller diameter rod leaves a little too much room for the rod to flex in larger bore barrels.

Talk to Don Leidich and get a Bore Rider polymer jag sized for your caliber and you're good to go.

Purchase a:Dewey nylon coated rod, jag, and brushes.

Dewey's Link: http://www.deweyrods.com/cgi-bin/ccp5/cp-app.cgi?usr=DEWEY2230&pg=cat&ref=RODS

Best all around solvent: Butch's Bore Shine.

When I got my bore guide from Mike, he needed to know what cleaning rod I was going to use, so he could size the diameter of the insert to that of the rod, has that changed and another plus for Dewey and of course Butchs bore shine hands down.
