LT 30 in 20 TAC?

Be careful! I think LT-30 will be a bit too fast in 20TAC. LT-32 might be useful, don't know. Will say that I want to try the LT-30 in my VarTarg w/32 grainers when I can get some. Let us know what you find.

I haven't seen a burn chart for the LT30. Is it faster than LT32? That stuff (LT32) is very fast and very good in both calibers.

Yes, it is faster than LT 32. Here is some data that will help you understand the difference. http://blog.westernpowders.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/LoadGuide-LT30-LT32-update12-29-14.pdf
You may note that there is no .20 caliber data for LT30. Given that there is for LT 32 I do not think that it was an oversight.

Reason I brought up the 20TAC is that LT 30's burn rate is reported to be a little bit faster than LT 32, near H4198. Both of these do quite well in my 20 TAC. LT 30 is the powder ?developed for the 30 BR where H 4198 does well. H4198 has been used in the .223 with 50-53 gr bullets. I will be cautious with reduced charges and report the MVS and shooting results.

Snagged some LT-30 & LT-32 yesterday, so will be trying these in the future myself. I'm thinking that the LT-30 may have an application in 20VT w/32 gr bullets. Accurate Powder only shows LT-32 w/32 gr bullets & the performance is sub-par IMO. Since I also still work with the 30BR a little, it will be interesting to compare LT-30 to H4198 in that cartridge, too.

Shot some LT 30 in my 20 TAC, a .223 , and a 6 mm BR
20 TAC: 6 BR
32 Barnes LT 30, 23 gr. 3976 fps. 65 conoway BT. LT 30. 29 gr 3432 fps
23.2 gr 4004 fps. 29.2 gr 3474 fps
23.4 gr 4031 fps
23.6 gr 4067 fps
Bolt lift was very easy.
.223:
53 hornady fbhp LT 30. 20.8 gr. 3274 fps
21. gr. 3306 fps
21.4 gr. 3388 fps
Now I'll try some of these for groups.

Shot for groups today and was happy.
6BR(rem 700,kreiger). 65 conaway LT 30 (29.4gr) 3457 fps, 3 shots, .187 in
LT 30 (29.6 gr) 3483 fps, 3 shots. 1/2 in
22BR( stiller predator, kreiger). 55 berger. LT 30 (28.8gr) 3758 fps!!! 3shots, .25 in

LT 30 (29 gr) 3769 fps!!! 3shots, .187 in. (Primer pockets still tight)
20 TAC(stiller predator Muller works). LT 30 (23.2) 3870 fps, 3shots 3/8 in
40 berger LT 30 (23.4) 3892 fps, 3 shots, 3/8 in
LT 30 (23.6) 3944 fps, 3 shots, .187 in!!
3940- 3950 fps is an accuracy node for the 40 berger and I got it with h4198 (23.4 and 23.6 gr. LT 30 seems to burn at same rate as h 4198 in this cartridge. The 22BR was the most impressive..more testing to follow.

Sounds very interesting. Just got a jug of each (LT-30 & LT-32), so will give them both a try when I have some time to play. Thanks for your results. I'm also using some Mullerworks barrels in 20-221FB AI & 20PPC.

Shot off solid bench today and results are MORE impressive!
20 TAC: 35 berger LT 30, 23.6 gr in new brass, 4016 fps, 3shot group was .069!!!!
LT 30, 23.4 gr ". ". ". 4023 fps, 3 shot group was 5/16 in
LT 30, 23.2 gr. ". ". ". 3948 fps 3 shot group was .238 in
22BR, 12 twist, 55 berger target, LT 30, 28.8 gr, 3724 fps, 3shot group was .070 in!!!!
LT 30, 29 gr, 3758 fps, 3 shot group was .27 in with a little vertical
Tried some in a 12 tw 22 BR shooting 60 jlks but 28.2 gr was HOT even though group was .156 in and I fear primer pocket stretch. 3457 was the MV. Slower powders can get this w/o pressure signs. Again, the most impressive results were the 55 bergers in the 14 two 22 BR.

Photos look good, as do the results shown on them. Will definitely have to try this myself.
