LRPV 6mm

I have a Savage LRPV 6mmbr on order and I'm wondering what dies I should go with. Will I need bushings and if so what size? I do reload, but nothing this fancy. Any advice would be appreciated.

I use a Wilson Neck die with a .268 diameter bushing and a Wilson Inline seater. The .268 bushing gives .002 neck tension on Lapua brass.

If you use Lapua brass, the necks measure .270, so the .268 neck bushing will give you .002 neck tension. If your not using Lapua brass, your crazy if your not, and your using Norma or another brand, I am not sure what there necks measure. Best thing to do is measure your necks and than deduct -.002 from that and that will give you your bushing size. .002 neck tension seems to be the norm with the 6BR.

Depending on the bullet, you may want a .267 or even a .266. Typical springback after sizing with a bushing is about .0013".

6BR is getting great accuracy with the Amax bullet with a .268, but with a skinnier bullet such as the Scenar you probably want a .267.

Another option is to order a Forster FL sizing die, and for an extra ten bucks or so, get the neck honed to the inside diameter you want. That's what I did with a Redding FL die and it works great.

But, of course, if I want to play with neck tension I have to use a different die.

Ed. in Chief, do you FL after every load?? I will be using Lapua brass. I see all the .267, .266,.266, but what will tell me what bushing I need for my gun. I plan on working with the A-max and Berger bullet. I'm sorry for the ignorance, but I want to make sure when I order dies and accessories that I have the right stuff. I am trying to get a hold of Savage to see if I can get the LRPV 4 shot in 1:8 twist.

I got 4 boxes of 6BR Lapua from Brunos a couple of months back. All the same lot, but mine measure 0.269 loaded with Sierra 95MK, 95 BIBs, or 95 Berger VLD. I am running a 0.267 bushing.

Luck, tiny

By the way, since the LRPV has a 1:12 twist find you some of the 80 gr Bergers to try out. Should be ideal for that barrel. Tiny
