Low recoil .270 win loads

Anyone have any low recoil loads they would like to share ? Just trying to makes something up for the wife so she can shoot the the weatherby vanguard she inherited. Really just 100yd plinking

It would be hard to beat H4895 for this application.


Also hogdon has reduced recoil loads on their website.

Be patient with that website, it can be very slow.

You might try building something around the speer 90 grn TNT. They are inexpensive and perform well (and beyond) for what you describe.

Speaking of the Speer 90 gr TNT, I have been using them in a Tikka 270 they shoot extremely well they are instant death on coyotes and bobcats, very low recoil. I load them with Accurate 4064.

Yep, my standard all-purpose load for my M70 in 270 for many years was ~48.5 gr IMR4895 w/ Speer 100gr HP (#1447) seated to "jam" ... according to the book, it should have given ~3200f/s...was very accurate for me.

Are you getting too much recoil from the cast bullets? Go for the lightest bullet possible.

Remington sold some reduced recoil 270s for a while.

95 gr ttsx. Work up a load with a typical fast 270 powder. Maybe 4350, ramshot hunter or big game. Re15 etc. use a min load
If just plinking maybe the TNT 90 gr. Cheaper

Hodgdon lists reduced recoil loads using the 110 ttsx. And 120 sst. Basically a case full of the slowest powders so it probably doesnt burn completely and may be dirty in the barrel but its low velocity

Loads can be reduced by 60% with h4895 IIRC. The hodgdon website is where to get the data
