losing POA or flyer

is it possible for a scope to lose POA,for 1 shot to be a 6 and 9 consecutive shots to be X or 10. Can a scope lose POA for 1 shot ?

Is it possible? Sure, almost anything's possible. But in the example you described, it's far more likely that the shooter simply missed a wind call, jerked the trigger, a reloading error on that round, or that something else in a similar vein was responsible. Having the POI going from a 10/X to a 6, you're talking about a sudden shift of the reticle of as much as 4 MOA for only a single shot, which then returned to its original position. This is not the behavior typically associated with unwanted reticle movement while firing.

From reading what you've wrote, it sounds like it was shot 1 that was out. The following is assuming that's what you're saying.

If it was the first shot, and you made an adjustment after your last sighter, and the last 9 were were they were supposed to be, that's a definite possibility.

It's also a definite possibility that the wait time between sight in and record a small condition came in, and when you made shot 1, it was at the end of it. Then shot 2-10 it was back condition wise where you thought it should be.

It's also a definite possibility that your first shot you got excited, maybe too much or little shoulder pressure, maybe you didnt run the rifle in the bags after closing the bolt, etc.

Maybe you left one in the chamber after sight in and the time it sat in there until you shot the first one the temperature in the case changed slightly.

Welcome to the game. It's all about tracking down those pesky fliers. ;)

It is a long way from the 10 ring to the 6 ring but beginners do it from time to time with iron sights, less often with a scope but it happens. It is rare when an experienced shooter does this and he either knows he did something significantly in error or he knows there is something wrong with the gun and ammo.
