I understand that if the punch and the hammer strike are not square to each other, I will bend the punch.

I am trying to remove an ejector retention pin from a bolt and so far I have bent about three 1/16" punches.

What do you recommend as a high strength punch that may not bend as easily.

Thanks for your replies.

Could you have a tapered pin and trying to drive it out in the wrong direction?
Mr. Barrel didn't mention the make or model of the extractor pin he was struggling with. My only experience with these are 700 Rems. They are roll pins and not tapered. Are there some brands that use a tapered pin on the extractor?

Savage ejector retaining pins only come out one way. They're not tapered, but have a slight crimp on one end. The pins are slightly under 1/16". I had to grind a 1/16" punch to about .059" to get it to fit.

Depressing the ejector made the removal much easier.

Probably a roll pin, if so find a drill bit that will fit inside the roll pin. take a hold of it with a pair of locking pliers and stick it in, then try and get a gripe of the pin by wedging the bit against the pin and twist and draw it out.

My Savage uses a straight pin best I could tell. Never took out a Rem. Appears from above that they use a "spring" pin. It is spring tension that holds them in place.. Thus a....

It is for a HOWA 1500. It is not a roll pin,I do have it secured to my vise and have the ejector depressed and slightly rock it back and forth during hammer strikes. I had the bolt end left in Kroil for two days hoping it will loosen up.

After reading your replies, I realized that may have screwed it up not knowing the pin may be a wedge type.

I will try your suggestions.

Thank you.

Screw it!!!.
I give up. It is not moving.

I tried with a shortend punch and an automatic center punch to no avail.
