Looking for Savage ejector help

I have a new PT&G bolt head on a Savage 112 action. I installed the ejector and it moves as it should. Here’s the issue—when I chamber a live round and want to eject that live round, the extractor does not grab the case and the case stays in the chamber. When I chamber a live round and fire, the case extracts and ejects as it should. When I remove the ejector assembly and chamber a live round, it will extract the live round as it should. With no ejector present, the brass just stays on the bolt face.

This is just a single shot colony varmint rig so I can always just run “ejector less” if need be, but does anyone have a suggestion for what I may be missing here?

Thanks in advance.

Please re-read your post. You have a couple of contradictions there.
Having said that, it sounds like the extractor is not catching the case rim on loaded, unfired rounds?
Might check your headspace and your loaded round length.
Seems the ejector is pushing the case forward and the extractor can't catch the rim. Until it's fired. Remove the ejector and the problem goes away.
Kinda surprised you aren't having FTF problems.

So I reread my post and I don’t feel like it was contradictory. However, you were spot on with the headspace. The dork who set the headspace did it with the ejector in. The dork was me! Lesson learned and thanks for your help sir.

Occam' s razor. Simplified, the simple solution is often correct.
Glad you figured it out.
