looking for recommendation on 6mmbr barrel

I am going to set up a savage for 300 and 600 yrd.
shilen barrel 1.062 shank and 6mmbr,maybe norma) .270/.272 neck no turn or neck turn just to clean up the neck.
.o95 to .110 throat. 105/107 gr bullets
1:8 twist
the only length that shilen has listed are 26"
What do you loose between 26" and 28" for 600yrd shooting?
I was told that you do not gain any thing over 26" ?
What do you think?

I'm guessing but you'll probably lose 20-25fps per inch. I would use a 30" if your going to 600yards. What kind of shooting will you be doing? Can you use a long barrel? Kreiger makes excellent 30" barrels in their light, medium and heavy Palma contours,and their easy to get).

IMHO, find a barrel that fits your design requirements. Their is a number of top barrel makers.

We did a cut-down test on a 6BR barrel from 33" to 28", shooting a 107 grain bullet. Total reduction of velocity from 33" to 28" was 40 fps, pretty much an even 8 fps per inch.

From 28" to 26" my guess is you'd lose 20-30 fps max.

That said, I'd go with a 27 or 28". That way you can set back the barrel once and still have a good length. Also, in the event that something's wrong with the last inch of the barrel, or the crown gets bunged up, you can cut a little and still have adequate length.

FYI, Krieger can give you a #17 HV or #18 LV at 28" for the same price as a 26".

One of our gunsmith friends in New Zealand had a 28" 6.5mm barrel that just wouldn't shoot. He tried all sorts of powder and bullet combos. finally, he just cut 1.25" off the end and now the thing shoots like a house on fire.

Remember, you can always cut a barrel down. You'll never be able to many it longer!
