Looking for Casual Matches/Fun Shoots in MI to visit

HI everyone.

So all these listing of matches around the country have me curious. I'm not a competitor, but I would like to see what it's all about.

So I'm looking to see if there are any casual matches/shoots within 2-3hrs drive of the Detroit area. I'm not looking to compete, I do not have nearly the right equipment. However I would like to see some casual matches with regular guy rigs. I have tried searching but all I find for Michigan is the state level competitions. I do not want to be skulking in any big time pressure type matches where I can get in people's way.

My preference is silhouette shooting, but I am also interested in seeing what F type and benchrest is like in person. Also, I'm a bullet caster, so I would be interested in any discipline that uses cast bullets or jacketed.

I figure there has to be matches all over Michigan that are not as well advertised, or at least not as well found via google.

There are NBRSA group matches up that way. I wouldn’t call them casual, but if you want to experience BR there is opportunity.

If you are looking for a road trip, the club I shoot at has centerfire BR matches & we have AR class, FACTORY class, & CUSTOM class, factory class is any factory rifle, all stock parts, so ANY off the shelf rifle can be used up to 300WM, most of our shooters started in factory & once they took the ir game as high as possible, got custom rifles built & shoot custom class now, GREAT WAY TO BREAK INTO THE SPORT & GET OFF THE SIDELINES & HAVE A LOT OF FUN!
WE ARE ABOUT 100 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE CHICAGO AREA, nothing but corn fields & soybeans as far as the eye can see!

At the Iosco Sportsmens Club in the Tawas/Oscoda area we run a VFS style benchrest match at 100 yards. Shoot what you bring. We get a variety of equipment from Factory to full custom. Twice a month we shoot a 300 yard match, from a bench or prone if you desire, at the F-class target using electronic targets. Again, factory stock rifles to full custom. A very relaxed, fun shoot. Once a month there is a 600 yard f-class/highpower match. We have two lanes set up with shooting benches for those that dont want to roll around on the ground. hmmm... Waterford... aint that something. That's where I am! Odds are we are a member at the same sportsmen's club.

I like this option alot. I'm assuming you allow non-members to participate? I would love to check out and even possibly participate in some of those bring anything you want type of matches. Do you have an updated schedule of these shoots?

Thanks for the link. That is where I looked earlier and I was thinking about going to Holton just to watch, and made me start thinking about the possibility of a bit more casual matches.

VFS is ”Varmint for Score”. All scheduled events are open to members and non-members.
