Looking for a reamer 20-250AI or 20x47

Ok guys I'm looking to rent a reamer. I've got a 8.5 twist pacnor 20 cal barrel setting at the smith. Waffling between these 2 calibers! Gonna be a coyote calling rig so I already know bout barrel life. Want to shoot 55 Bergers/Blackholes. All help appreciated. TIA

I have this reamer 20-250AI.... but I usually only allow it to go to one gunsmith, which is Casey, down in Duncan OK.

Let me know if your willing to use him for a free rental... thanks...Dan

I know of a few that have Casey build their rifles........

I have heard lots of good things.....

you crack me up! That should be a SHMOKIN rig. Keep us in the loop on progress.

I had a 20-250. Loved it but she burned up quick. I don't know that an improved version would really gain a whole lot of an advantage for you, especially for a calling rifle. However speed is fun!

I'd do the 20x47 just for fun since I had the other one already.

just out of curiosity what barrel did you have on that rig and how many rounds before the barrel went south?

mine is a 8 tw brux at 26" rem varmint contour, and i have not kept record of how many shots went though it... but it's a bunch... not sure how many hundred... my bad, for bad record keeping...LOL.. but it still shoots good...BUT... i only shoot speeds like 3770 fps... not like in the 3900's that it's capable of doing.... and i shoot a slower powder...imr 4350... slower powder gives longer barrel life. I believe it's best to always shoot the slowest powder in any caliber that will give you the speeds you desire. I mean really... why shoot a hot powder to give you the same fps that a slower powder would? To me.... start with slow powders and work upwards. Getting the speed with less heat is the answer in all calibers to me...but that's just me... but who am I....LOL.

My garage built Surgeon 591 action/bottom metal. Jewel trigger. McMillan A5 stock. Tack driver at 3850 fps with 55gr Berger. Pacnor Supermatch 1x9 twist 1.250 28in fluted tube. Shoots great out to 800 yards so far.

It would be interesting to see if a 3 groove barrel would last longer under those circumstances.

I would a guess a 3 groove may give a guy more life. Realistically it's not a long barrel life. If I were to do it agin I'd have two barrels chambered and use the first for load development and practice. Then hunt with it till she's gone. Then have the second ready to go with not much load development and you can use it as a calling rifle for quite a few years.
