Looking for a new 6mm varmint projectile

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with the Nosler 80 grn BT varmint projectile? I would like to use it in a 6Br 8tw out to 600yrds on Rabbits, Hares and Magpies.

Any reason why people choose V-maxes or Blitz kings over the Nolser varmints?

Thanks

yeah, has crossed my mind...it will no doubt be accurate...not sure about its expansion on little critters at 6BR velocities.

I am getting great accuracy from them out of my .243, and they were devastating on coyote at 120 and 180yds @3300fps. Simple bang-flop on both. Definitely worth a shot.

If you end up wanting a bit more speed, there are always the the 55's and 70's as well

Thanks guys, I'm not too sure of them opening up to be honest, I have used Berger 88s and some kills weren't as clean as I would have liked....has anyone tried the Nosler 80s BT?

Sorry , I guess I should have specified, I am using the 80gr Nosler Varmint BT's.

My last post I was referring to the Nosler's.

An 8 twist 6BR, Either a 105 or 108 Berger would fit the bill rather nicley and at 600 yards would be hard to beat for accuracy.

LOL - Kenny474, Coupalr - sorry I assumed everyone was talking about the Berger....thanks for the replies, I will definitely try the Nosler.

Hi guys,

Finally worked up a load with the 80grn Noslers, I am very pleased with them, they have performed well out varminting and I found it quite easy to get an accurate load in my 6BR....definitely a good replacement for Hornady...

Thanks for the input...

the 87gr Vmax has the highest BC of any "varmit" bullets and they are cheep... other match bullets have higher BC's, but you may not get expansion depending on impact speed and the size of the target

i know it is not a "varmint bullet" but the berger 100 grain BT sounds like it could be an alright bullet. fairly high BC and should be able to push the velocity pretty high. don't hear too much about this bullet though

Thanks Guys,

To be honest the 105 A-max is my favourite varmint round out of a 6BR (I personally don't believe there is any difference to them and a V-Max for splat), but the problem I have is; I can't get any or any of the Hornady V-max range full stop (I'm talking over 6 months now). I tried 88 Bergers but they didn't open so good at 6BR velocities but they are very accurate.

The 80 grain Nosler has worked well with good hits on rabbits (bang flop) from 200 to 490yrds, the cost seems reasonable and I was a little suprised at how easy it was to get an accurate load for them...all though I have learnt a thing or three since starting :-).

Thanks

I shoot the 80gr BT in a 6br Savage that has a PacNor heavy sporter 26" barrel (.650 @ muzzle) 3150fps. I use it mostly for Yotes. I've taken many at 400 - 600 yards. Accuracy is excellent and terminal performance all you could ask for.

I have had good luck with both the 75 VMax and the 70 SMK. The 75 VMax is my go-to bullet in my 6mm Rem (old school 1:12 twist 244 Rem). At 3600 fps it yields spectacular hits on small varmints. Coyotes don't complain either.

Luck, Tim
