Looking for a 9422 expert

Recently purchased a nice 9422M Legacy. It’s late 2004 production. The gun is gorgeous except for the stock which, while in excellent condition, has some really uninspiring wood. I’m thinking about stripping the finish and sending it out for some @Bc'z magic. But I can’t really tell what the factory finish is. Can someone tell me if this stock is oil finished, urethane or what? I prefer to do a chemical strip if possible.

They’ll bury me with this gun so collector value is meaningless to me.

Thanks for the help!

Tape off the checkering with 2 layers of masking tape. I had a straight grip one when i was a kid. I carried it take down style on my motorcycle when i was pond hopping to get those pesky turtles.

If its a true laquar, thinner will take it back to solution.
Personally I'd sand it off protecting the checkering with tape as dusty said, then brush thinner in the checkering with a good stiff bristle brush provided the thinner removes the finish.
I've only ever done 1 set of furniture that was checkered, swore I'd never do another. Lol 20200513_161651.jpg
