Looking for .243 data with 4000-MR and 105's

Looking for .243 data with 4000-MR and 105's, either Berger's, AMAX's, or RDF. I have 8lbs and high hopes. Unfortunately, QuickLoad lacks data on this powder. I also wouldn't mind similar data with Superformance.

Alliant shows 42.1 gr of 4000mr as max with 105amax but they're using a very short CAOL so i would assume if you're loading around 2.800" COAL the max would be a bit higher.

I am aware of Alliant's reloading data.

It's a little skimpy. And I don't like any data without pressure data. I load my 105's with the same amount of RL17, and 4000mr is supposed to be significantly slower.

I'm looking for real world data, by people that have actually used the powder.

From what I can tell, 4000mr should be somewhere between RL19 and RL22

I've used it versus 4831sc, it's fps faster with the same charges. I subtracted a grain and a half from my 4831sc load and worked up. What I did determine is it likes to babe up near pressure. Meaning the top of your ladder you will see a flatter node than the lower. The guy who suggested it to me said all these MR powders were that way. To the point the don't shoot as will unless you are in that top node. My experience was it was too fast (fps) wise in my tactical gun to be allowed to shoot at steel. So I didn't go far with my experiment.

Judd, awesome answer. That's the exact type of info I'm looking for.

I use 2000-mr in .308 and 5.56, and have been very happy with it.

I figured it was close to 4831, but was looking for confirmation. I found a burn rate chart online, but it shows 4000-mr below Magpro and right above 7828.

I really wish Alliant posted pressure readings for the loads they give. I DO NOT think the load for the 105 AMAX is anywhere near max.

Loaded up some rounds and went to the range. 1st, the load data I have been able to find is way too conservative. My best accuracy occurred with 45.6g with the 105 RDF at 2.71" COAL.

From here, I am going to increase COAL, as other rounds I have shot have shot better at around 2.8".

Your experience with the Alliant data matches mine. The max loads listed seem to be consistently conservative. Good luck with your work-up and be safe. I'll be looking forward to you posting the results. I have an 8 lb. jug of 4000MR that I picked up on sale and I need to start experimenting with it.

I can give a little velocity data. In my 26" BHW barrel, 44.7g produced 3090 FPS, with an SD of 20 and ES of 48. I took off the magnetospeed after that load, as it affected accuracy.
