I'm retired so I don't have the money for Anschutz

I don't know if you know this or not, but 22's headspace off of the rim thickness. so, if you get the little tool for measuring the rim thickness and separate them by that measurement and then weigh them for consistency, you can get an above average target grade 22lr ammo without having to spend a bunch on eley ammo. I did it for years when shooting 22 silhouettes.you know, if you are that interested. bryant

I disagree. My 141M is a Savage-Anschutz. It has the same 64 action and trigger as my German made 1416s and 164M. It is also the same fine quality and shoots with the same superb accuracy as the rest of my Anschutz rifles. I can't tell a bit of difference aside from the receiver markings.

If I was looking for a good rifle, I would look for good deals on a used Anschutz sporter. Good deals might be a bit scarce but they ARE out there. In the past, I've found several deals on great Anschutz rifles in both .22LR and .22 magnum in the $300-$400 range.
I've compared Anschutz .22 rifles to many other brands including CZ and Sako and nothing beats the Anschutz.

My wife shot every rimfire rifle in my collection and she will only shoot the Anschutz rifles now. She says the others aren't as much fun. She admitted that she didn't really enjoy shooting .22 rifles until she tried shooting Anschutz. She has a point.
She has taken a real interest in long range rimfire shooting now so I set up a 1416 with a 4.5-14x40 Nikon scope for her and she delights in bench shooting for accuracy. She posts her targets on our refrigerator now. I really like seeing her have that much interest in shooting at 70 yr old.

Get your wife something she will be proud of and won't feel tempted to upgrade later.

CZ 452 American is the one I would choose but I like the other models as well, the 457 MTR is looking nice as well if she shoots bench all the time. Love the Anschutz as well

Will she ever want to do more than fun shoots? If it is in the realm of possibility spend the extra and get a anschutz or 40x now. I have about 8 or 900 in a savage mark ii i wish i would have only cried once.

Also, don’t discount a 10/22 with some Kidd parts added. They can be quite accurate and lots of fun being a semi auto. They can be found under your budget and be built up over time if wanted.....

My wife is wanting to do some fun shoots, nothing serious as of now with a 22 lr. She has been looking at the new CZ 457 All In One with Boyd stock, not sure about the 16" or 24" barrel. I have a Burris Predator Quest 4x14 scope to put on the rifle. This will probably stay as a factory setup and I don't want to spend over $700 for the rifle. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

I have 2 CZ 455 Varmint. Both shoot great. The 455 HB are all the same actions and barrels, it is just what stock you want. I am sure the 457's are the same.
I just got a T1X, it is shooting as good as my CZ's, maybe slightly better. see post below.

I think you've picked a good time to go looking for a new rifle for your wife. Both the new CZ 457 series and the Tikka T1x are just becoming widely available, and both are getting some very good reviews. The T1x 22LR is only available in one configuration, so that simplifies things considerably. However, the CZ457 is available in several different styles, so you'd just about need to find a shop with several of those styles in stock to have a good chance of making the right choice for her. I own a couple of Win 52Ds, had three Rem 40X & XBs, still have an Anschutz 2011, a Ruger 10/22, Win M61, and a Rem 541T - but my favorite 22s are my Vudoo V-22s. However, the way they're set up would cost $4k to duplicate. I use them in competition, and absolutely love the way they handle & shoot. But, as much as I like them, I'm also very interested in getting a CZ457 in either the MTR or American configuration. I also want to get my hands on a Tikka Tix, especially after seeing some the groups new owners have been shooting with them. Can you say a.d.d.i.c.t.i.o.n?

Get the CZ you mentioned, very nice gun for the $. Invest the difference in the best optic you can......as important as the gun.
Get the 24” barrel. You will never see a highly capable custom gun with a 16” barrel.......ever, for way too many reasons to go into here.

I am trying to find a 457 in stock at one of the stores here in Denver so she can get an idea if it is the one for her. All the replies here has sent her on a quest to look around more so she feels good with her decision.

If you can't find any of the 457s, you might get her started looking for at T1x - it's a little less $$ than the 457, and from groups I've seen posted, has very good accuracy potential. Since it's winter in Denver, you've got some time to wait for the rifles you & her are wanting to look at to start showing up in larger numbers. Good luck finding just the rifle she'll be happy with, and good shooting!

The reason you can't find any difference is because its an Anschutz. Savage was only the US distributor for these rifles. There is nothing remotely "Savage" manufactured about Savage-Anschutz rifles.

What's the end game? The CZ 452 Scout is a good rifle to carry and shoot from field positions for someone of diminutive stature. The 452 American I once owned was close. I sold mine to a young lady for a silhouette rifle. I would speculate similar statements about the 1416 Anschutz would be accurate as well (I have never owned a 64 act in, only 54). Unless a gun was bench only I wouldn't necessarily recommend an Anschutz 54 or a 40-X.
