Looking at equipment lists...

The 6 PPC still tends to be the most accurate @300 yards. But then most shoot what they already are familiar with. For group that's going to be a 6 PPC. For IBS score it's going to be a 30 BR. The exception is in UBR score competition with a caliber neutral target. In going over the records and trying to remember, UBR records for 300 are held mostly by 6 PPCs with a few 30 BRs and a few 6 BRs. The 200 yard records are almost always the same cartridges as 100 yards. Very few shooters will change rifles between yardages and it mostly doesn't work anyway.

BTW- another semi-unrelated thought. Danny Hensley, who created and owns UBR, has offered a "bounty" on 6 PPCs so to speak. He has offered a one time reward of $100 to anyone who shoots a perfect score of 264 @ 100 yards with something other than a 6 PPC. UBR is beginning it's 11th season. I don't recall when he put up the offer, but it has probably been 6-7 years ago. To my knowledge, no one has collected yet.

In short line score the 30BR cuts a 0.308" hole and the 6PPC a 0.243" hole. It might get a few points difference over a 50 shot match, especially if there is a 6X scope limit as in Hunter Bench Rest. In Varmit for Score I believe 6mm is the maximum bullet allowed and unlimited scope power, but I may be mistaken.

There is no maximum caliber in IBS SR score. I was just talking to Jim Cline the IBS VP about this recently. I remember not too long ago there use to be a 40 caliber limit but the rules have been rewritten and he is sure that there is no set caliber that is maximum.

So is my 375br legal now?

All it will take is a barrel, reamer, bullets, good brass etc. Even a bigger bullet has to get close  But then, why stop with that? Why not a 50 BMG? That would be a serious hole in the target, not to mention running off the shooters sitting next to you.
