lookig for loads for a 6.5-06

lookinf for best loads for 6.5-06 and would like to know what people prefer necking up 25-06 or down 270? and what procedure do you use?Thank You RW

i had a great 6.5-06 built on a vz98 mauser action, 24"douglas supreme fagen stk,, very accurat and absolutely deadly on deer with 129 hornaday, Jerry Hart, a friend had given me the idea as he used his in Wy on white tail.mulie with great success out to 400+yds

i found that 4350 was the best powder for my chamber/bbl combination, never had a deer walk away.

i used GI -06 brass, necked down, and turned 9 1/2 primers and even shot the rifle in hunter class with good resuilts.

H1000 works the best for me, I started with 52 grns and worked up from there I have necked down lapua 30-06 to 6.5 and necked up a ton of 25-06 witch is probably faster. I shoot 139 lapua

Mine is a Mauser action with a 26" SS Lilja barrel. I've found that running 25-06 through the FL die, loading and shooting to be by far the easiest for me. I use Winchester brass. I've found N550 and N560 to give me really good accuracy, speed, and performance with 120gr Sierras, 129gr SST's, and 140gr Seirra Gamekings. WW 760 also works good with the 95gr Vmax's as well as the 120gr NBT. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. :) WD

Over all IMR 4350 seems to give the best accuracy but H-4831 will give you a little more velocity with decent accuracy for hunting. My buddy had one and we did a lot of experimenting with it. But 3000 fps with a 120 gr bullet ain't nothing to sneeze at and IMR 4350 will do that. For one bullet that will do it all from deer up through elk give the 130 Nosler Accubond a long look. It really works well in my 264 Win mag. For deer the 120 gr Sierra or Nosler ballistic tip at 3000 fps out of my 29" barrel 6.5X55 Swede and my buddies 6.5-06 is a death ray. BANG FLOP. The 100 gr Sierra HP is an A-BOMB to ground hogs. Red mist city.

Don't have experience with this round in the field but shot a lot of it in mid-long range competition. For me H-4831sc and a 142 SMK or 140 Berger VLD won a lot of matches. This caliber will keep up with the 6.5/284's all day long. Barrel life (4 barrels so far) is a little longer also. Yeah, it's still a barrel burner! As for cases I use Winchester 25/06. Just neck up load and shoot. Don't have to worry about "Donuts" from necking down cases. My barrels are 30" so I can take advantage of the slower powders like 4831. With shorter barrels you can't go wrong with 4350 as others have said. As far as procedure goes I run 25/06 cases thru a Sinclair expander die with a 6.5 mandrel, do the usual case prep, load and shoot.
