Long throated 7 RUM action recommendation

I was going to use an older Pierce LA to build a long throated 7 Rum. I bought the 4 inch wyatts box (CFE-09), but now have learned that the Pierce action will not accommodate a box that long. The barrel is already chambered and threaded for the pierce action.

Which actions will accommodate the 4 inch box and a long throated 7 Rum....and hopefully at the same time have the same threads as the pierce action.

Thanks
Jerry

i built one many years ago (a 7rum) on a Remington magnum action that was originally a 300RUM and it had to have the tang end of the magazine cut out altered. I was there when the "smith" cut it in the mill. Call Kevin Wyatt (if memory serves its Kevin) i am not sure any actions will work unless modified. He was always easy to talk to and as helpful as he could be, He soldered a bolt handle on a PGT bolt that let loose a long time after the work was done and he took care of it immediately.

The mag well can be extended but you can't change the location of the bolt stop. So that's a no go. You either have to go to a larger/longer 338 Lapua action with a .532" bolt or a Rem 700 which allows for easy modification.

Have you talked to your smith? Threads?
Pierce offers a 4" box option. Have you called them? They might be able to help you.

Threads are 18 tpi. My smith has never done this before so he didn't really have any answers for me, other than my action will not accommodate the long action because of the bolt release

Location of the bolt stop is not changed, the location on the bolt stop piece is altered, allowing the bolt stop to travel to the rear to a greater distance.

I understand that just don't know how much metal you have to work with in the stop proper.

Dave, I do not run the 4", but have several of the next size down for 7 Mags.

WYATT's are great people to deal with, they would know the answer to this question, immediately. They are moving from Oregon to Ga right now. If you have a hard time getting in touch with them, be patient.

so ....my Pierce LA will work? with the right modification to the location of the bolt stop flat piece. The bolt stop button stays in the same place?

possibly Someone would have to do the math with an eye to maintaining the integrity of the stop when shortening the engagement spot. All that has to be figured out before lengthening the mag well.

I can feed 4.020" out of the mag of a 300 RUM, factory Remington 700 action...milled the action with a carbide end mill about 1/4" at the rear bridge and on the bottom...to fit the Wyatt mag box...then mill the bolt stop. The rear bridge requires indicating the original lines of the 700 action and a carbide end mill with the correct radius to blend in...looks great, works great.
Runs 250 gr Atips 4.00" at 2985 fps out of the 26," factory barrel ... but the 10 twist will not stablize...ordered a 8 twist Bartlein 30"...but installed it on a long sction 308..and it does 95% of what I want, in a less expensive cartridge...so I put the 300 RUM on hold for awhile
But it can be done... not even difficult, with a Bridgeport mill.

I know a guy that modified the action with a carbide end mill on a drill press with a Mill vise. I know another guy that did the modifications using a Dremel with a 1/8" carbide cutter...took his time.
