Long Range Varmint Scopes

What Varmint Scopes do you guys use ..................Does anyone have any experiance with the Leupold LRT or what about the Reticle Darrel Holland has called the Advanced Reticle Tecknology. If you have not see it check it out on his web site and let me know what you think.
This is all new to me.......................So I need you help and imput.

The ART is my favorite reticle hands down.
I have them in both FFP and SFP scopes

I use the standard mildot for all my long range rifles and have one rifle with just the regular deuplex. Id go with a reticle that you like and isnt to busy for you and something you know or can easily learn how to use. Just my 2 cents tho.

I,m using the sightron S111 (2 6-24,s) with the mil-dot now , not my ret choice but something I can live with for now (I use the mil-dot more for windage, vers a flat line ie-dot), but waiting for there new MOA,s to show-up... may try a 8-_32x56 w/MOA ~Danny Looked at the holland ART years ago but looked too busy for varmint use

Greg -

Howdy !

Since I cant' $$$ the Leupolds and NightForce products, I have gone to use of a Weaver 36X outfitted witha Gene Davis " optical booster ".

The booster give me beaucoup' magification w/o excessive cost.

Now.... these aren't for everybody, as some shooters will tell you the booster gives them optical maladies.

Last time I checked, Gene was shipping the boosters for $100 total.

When I had my 22 Hornet and 22K Hornet I loved the Weaver V-16 I had on them. Found it hard to consider a Leupold when the Weaver worked so good.

I use a 36x weaver with a 1/8 dot on a 6ppc for ground hoging click for distance hold for windage hope
this helps.Try to look through scopes with different reticles would be your best bet.
Mark PS have looked at the holland if not to busy for you looks pretty good.

Depends on what you call long range. For me, I consider anything beyond 300 yards long range. Most of my varmint hunting is at ranges of 300 yards and under off of shooting sticks since I like to stalk and walk around.

I've found that the new Bushnell Elite 3200 and 4200 scopes are an excellent value. There very clear. I prefer the 16x power range. I like the Multi-X reticle since my eyes is not the best and this reticle helps me considerably in low light in the evenings when I see a lot of groundhogs.

If you can afford it, the Leupold V3 20x are an excellent scope for long range shooting. They are clear and have repeatable target turrets, a must for long range shooting. A friend of my has several on his 22 250s and shoots hogs out to 500 yards but he uses a potable table and sand bags that he hauls into the field.

For prairie dogs I use an 8-32x Burris Signature with the iris that closes down and the peep plex reticle. I don't like cluttered reticles for varmints. For calling coyotes, I use a 2-7X on a Rem 600 in 222- seems to be a pretty good trade off. When fur hunting, I use my hummer which wears a 2.5-8 VX3.

I really like having a variable scope on these hunting rifles-especially for prairie dogs. I turn it as high as conditions allow and turn it down to find the mound. Works great.

I have a Leupold M8 24x fixed power on one long rangre rifle, 1 Weaver T24, 1 Weaver T36 and 1 Leupold VX2 6x18 Target scope.

My favorite is the T24 with a dot reticle.

I have just started getting into the variable power scopes. I don't prefer them but one of my hunting sites is along railroad tracks. On a hot day I find it hard to see with more then 8x with mirage.

I really like the Leupold Varmint Hunters Reticle. It provides a clean sight picture with hold offs for both elevation and wind. Most of the mildots that I have seen have too much image overlaid by the dots. I have a couple of different Leupolds, including some older Vari-X III's in 6.5x20x40, and the VX-III. They are expensive, but less so than my NightForce. Love the optics on the NF, which is obviously much bigger in tube diameter and objective, but is just a pleasure to use.
