Long Range Shooting in Michigan

Hey guys, I recently moved to the Lansing area a few weeks ago and I’m a long range hunter, shooter, varminter. I haven’t really found anywhere within an hour drive that I can shoot 500+ yards. I have found a lot of local farms but I haven’t asked any of them permission yet and a good bit of them are close to roads and houses unfortunately. If anyone who’s local to me or in this area could give me any tips or ideas of where I could do some long range shooting I would very much appreciate it! Thanks guys!

there is one south of grand rapids a few minutes.. i want to say its called south kent sportsmans club... i do not know anything about them or such but i have heard of them... i do not know much in the lansing area but i have heard of a 1000 yard range in the reed city area.. or camp grayling... i dont know any other long range spots in michigan besides farms...

I’m not aware of anyone shooting at camp graying in the last couple of years. All of the long range shoots have been at MTC.

I am the Michigan Rifle & Pistol Assoc State High Power Director and I maintain a list of the high power ATC, RC, mid and long range matches in the state. We try to maintain a list of upcoming matches at MICHRPA.ORG

There are two upcoming mid range matches in the next couple of weeks.

1. Bluewater Sportsman’s Assoc is holding a 3X600 mid range on 10/31.

2. Midland County Sportsman’s Club is hosting a 3x600 BSA charity match on 11/7.

Both matches fired on Shotmarker etargets.

In Michigan I can state this.

MTC is the host facility for all MRPA LR matches (3 weekends a year). MTC as a private club also holds long range shooting classes and hosts PRS matches. They have a very nice facility with a 1k yard range. Camp Grayling is pretty much kaput due to scheduling difficulty and cost.

clubs that host mid range (600 yard) matches throughout the year are as follows:

Washtenaw Sportsman’s Club - Ypsilanti.

WSC also holds 600 yard practice on Wednesdays throughout the summer and fall. WSC also has some other shoots that utilize the 600 yard range. You can look at the club calendar and contact the organizer.

Midland Co Sportsman’s Club - Midland -see SEMNO . ORG for schedule

Cadillac Sportsman’s Club - Cadillac

Iosco Co Sportsman’s Club - Tawas

Bluewater Sportsman’s Assoc - Marysville - BWSA also has a PRS division and they host a few events

Negaunee R&G Club - Negaunee (UP)

Muskegon and Howell have 300 yard ranges.

None of these clubs are open to the general public except at organized events. Most do not allow you to use the 600 yard ranges for members / guests except at organized events. There are a few exceptions.

hope that helps and feel free to reach out to me with questions. Jaroot@gmail.com

Young's Longshot in Woodruff In. About 112 miles from you. They go out to 1,000 yards. But you have to join as a member. Check out their website and then give Deb a call if you are interested. Currently I drive 231 miles one way to get there. It is the best.

In the above list Iosco Sportman’s Club is listed in Tawas. Their 100 yard range is in East Tawas but their 600 yard range is located outside of Oscoda across Rea Road from the Wurtsmith Air Base.

Not my thread but thanks for the info. I live in NW Indiana and didn't know that range even existed. Looks like a excellent facility
