long range prarie dog

Just returned from South Dakota annual prarie dog shoot. Killed one at 1175yds. Stepped off and confirmed distance with Sierra Infinity program and with tech at Sierra. Rifle was Mauser action with Shilen 1:10 twist 243 bbl. Load was 95gr Sierra Match King behind 40.5gr of H4350 at 3040fps. This has been a very accurate load at 300yds but have not tried at long range until now.

Congratulations on your awesome shot! I can't wait to go Pdoggin with my new 6BR in 2009. I will be looking to get a 1000 yard Pdog too. I will be using the 105grn A-Max for shots past 500 yards and the 87grn V-Max for shots under 500 yards. Once again, AWESOME shooting!!!!

One more thing, did you go on a guided hunt and stay at a lodge? Or did you hunt on your own. I am looking for places to go Pdoggin next year. I am currently looking at going to the Rockin 7 Ranch in Wyoming, however, would like to hear about South Dakota. Any info would be great.

Your 6br will be a good choice for pdogs. I would suggest using one bullet for all of you shooting. The 87vmax is a fine bullet as I have used in my 243, however you are dealing with wind most of the time so the highest BC bullet you can use is a good choice. The 95 Sierra,.490) will bite the wind and shoot flatter at long range than the 87 vmax,.400) and will work well on shots under 500yds although it will not be as explosive. They are a good choice for velocity and bc.
