Long range camera

I bought the target vision system. It works but has issues. Customer support is just ok. After using the camera I will never go back to shooting without one. Its a total game changer. I can't figure out why one of the major optics companies hasn't offered a dialed in reasonably price system. There is a fortune to be made. Once you use one you won't go back to shooting steel at 700 yards with no idea of where you are hitting.

I'm making the change from a Target Vision camera to a ShotMarker. Welding up a aluminum target frame tomorrow. Hope to shoot with it next week.:D

I ordered a shot marker but there was production issues and none were available. Also the I need portability.

Target vision camera unit has worked out to 850 yards but the receiver unit won't get a camera feed. I can use it with a amazon fire pad, a iphone only works when close to the camera. I tell you when this thing works its slick and portable, I don't want to be without the camera unit so I hope I can just send them the receiver and have them fix it. I had to send both units back once and they fixed the camera unit, so far my email and voice mail about the receiver unit have gone unanswered.

My point is there are a lot of shooters that would buy a target vision system and love it it they can get their act together. Simply under capitalized, just like shot marker.

You can buy off the self common networking equipment and do this on your own. IP camera, a couple routers, done. I did this over 10 years ago. The IP cameras have built in webpages, so no software is needed. Want to get fancy, pick up a pan/tilt/zoom camera. Most of the Dahua cams have separate power connectors and take 12V DC. Some routers also use 12V. Regular old lead acid batteries to power everything. The sealed UPS batteries work nicely. Can add more directive antennas to the routers if needed.

I've got the Caldwell 1 mile LR camera. I love it. Only used it to about 1300 yards but pretty cool. Battery died once but my fault for leaving it on while I went to lunch ( 2 hours ) later. Lasted about 6 hours total tho. Not too bad. I'm sure there better units but at 1300 yards watching bullets hit paper is a HUGE step better than I had. Saves a ton of time

I need portability as I can't drive down range and I can't haul a car battery on my bike. Any ideas?

Ima see what happens with 2 iphones using facetime or Skype. Prop one up behind a pc of ar500 at the target.
I too was going to try it but backed off due to overheating. It's 80 deg in the morning here. Desert. Please post any results you get. Thanx Mike

Doesn't have to be a car battery or even lead acid

For routers, I tend to use the old Buffalo HP routers. They are G routers and take a single RPSMA antenna. IIRC, they run off 5V so you'd either need a power adapter to got from 12V to 5V or a separate battery. Should run off one of the USB battery packs.

The old linksys WRT54Gs work nicely as well.

Throw a more directive omni on both sides

Load DD-WRT onto the routers.
Run the router at your shooting position as an access point.
Run the down range router in client mode connected to the shooting point router.
