Long Range Alley Matches

Not good for sure but at least the range will remain open. Many ranges closures happen and we cant shoot at them at all.
Maybe another club will pick up the matches? I’m with you though, at least we still have a 1000 yard range to shoot.

Rite — Im lucky there is a 1000 yd range not far from the house. Its a privately owned commercial one and they could close it any time they want. I dont think there over 5 in our whole state.

Got the same email. Real sad to see this. I was looking forwards to many matches there. This past year I shot my first clean match there and at the same time my wife shot in her first ever long range match. And to top it off she shot it clean and creedmoored me.
I was there!!! The girls were cheering for her! Hey to the Lady.

Well…this sux. I get it though. My sons and I really enjoyed going up occasionally when we were getting ready for Camp Perry Long Range Matches. Also, shot a few of the Mid-Range Matches there. Challenging Range at times but always great folks and lots of fun.

…..I will miss going.

Yeah it sucks. I really enjoyed shooting matches there. Participation has been dwindling down since corona virus hit and it hasn't come back up. There has been plenty of times there was only 3 of us shooting.

I was really looking forward to going back this year to defend my title in FTR. But, I understand how much work putting on these matches is and they did a fantastic job. It’s a ton of hours and then if you like to shoot, you can’t compete. All for zero pay.

Most of us don’t mind helping out but we also like to compete. These events are purely sacrificial and most match directors don’t last more than a few years before being burned out.

I hope they find replacements because LRA is a great place to shoot!

If you guys and gals want to shoot some matches in LA, there are 100-200 yd bench rest score matches in VFS and HBR classes near Lake Charles. You can find more info on NBRSA.org. Since you are used to shooting 600-1000 yds, these matches should be cake for you.

I just found this post about LRA. I've been aware of it for a while, but never have stopped by to check it out, and its website appears to be defunct, unless I'm not searching for it correctly. I was hoping to find a schedule of upcoming matches to go watch. I have an old family home place just southwest of Mansfield that I do some shooting at and was wanting to see when some matches might be happening that fit my schedule. I live in Sulphur so if anyone has some schedules of events at LRA or close to Lake Charles shoot me a message. I started reloading last Jan and through some posts on this site as well as others, I thought it might be nice to connect with some more experienced loaders and shooters in my area to meet with for pointers and critiques without all the forum bashing and "more betters" that I so often see.

Thanks, Stuart

Beaumont Texas used to have some matches(sorry I don’t know the range) and there is a range east a ways from lake Charles, Palo Alto gun club that has f-class matches. Carthage Texas is another spot for 600yd f-class matches.

All LRA matches have been cancelled and I doubt there will be anymore in the foreseeable future. As stated above, Pablo alto in Donaldsonville (http://paloaltogunclub.com/) hosts 600 yard matches as does Panola (http://epcgc.com/) in Carthage Texas. If you want to do 1000 yards, look to Bayou Rifles in Houston.

Golden triangle gun club in Beaumont is close to you. They have a 600 yard f class match on the 4th Saturday of each month.
