Long(er) necked version of 7 WSM

I'm putting together a rifle to have a go at a 2 MOA target at 1 mile. 7mm seems to be a good compromise between capability and recoil. The Berger 184gr F-Open Hybrid bullet looks like it would work.

A 7 Rem Mag would work but it has such slopey sides and shoulders. I was looking for alternatives and ran across the 7 WSM. Nice! Fat case, good shoulders but the neck is so short.

Is there a version of the 7 WSM with a longer neck? Same or a little more case capacity. Actually, I would like a little more case capacity but a longer neck would probably suffice.

A 7 PRC has a little less case capacity. I guess I could do a 7 Rem Mag AI.

Thanks!

I will be using a magnum action, no magazine, so OAL is not an issue.

im gonna have a go at a mile one of these days with a 300 WsM but if i was even a little serious about it id go with a 338 lapua improved

1800 yards i have a 36" Round gong. I shoot it with my 7mm Rem mag. at first was the 162 A Max before they changed them to the ELD line of bullets. then with a Gain Twist Bartline barrel same rifle again chambered up in the very capable but not new wizbang 7mm Rem Mag 180gr Berger Hybrids. Third barrel also chambered in the boreing and very capable 7mm Rem Mag and H1000 and the 180gr Hybrid with Norma brass.
Yep 7mm Rem Mag is a bad choice. LOL ( Sarcastic eye roll)

The 7 sherman mega is essentially a blown out 300 wsm with a longer neck and 40 degree shoulder. I have a 7 mega for my hunting rifle and its been an absolute hammer. 22" barrel with a mild load of n565 with 180s at 2900 fps. ES of 15 or less for 10-15 shots. Low 3" or less at 890 yds consistently for 3 shot groups. Its a lightweight carbon barrel so Im not gonna shoot 5-10 shot groups. Every shot is cold bore. Last group at 100 was .155". I didn't try and see how fast i could push it as this node is very wide. Im a couple grains below where others are. Primer pockets will last 20+ firings at this node. ADG brass available and comes with a 35 degree shoulder. Very little forming involved. I still jam .020 on the first firing though. Forming loads would of cleaned a 600 yd fclass target with high x count.

Make it easy 7 saum or 7prcw.
More than plenty to make you smile at a mile.

If I’m going to a place limited to a mile and under I leave my 338 at home and take the 7SAUM instead.3DDB010A-935C-450F-9BE3-3C8F1B0E5C0D.jpeg

This is something to consider. Ryan has a little experience with the longer range stuff!! Lol. Nice shooting, but we do need a pic of said rifle! Please.

What ever length of the neck you want cut that off the base of your die and run with it , been shooting this for years . Same parent case .

The 7 Sherman sounds a lot like what Bryan Blake at FCP is currently developing....
The 7mm BSM... A 300WSM case necked down, shoulder pushed back to afford a longer neck and a 40* shoulder.
FCP will apparently offer a "Kit", Reamer, gauges & Dies for those that want to build their own or offer to build it for you.
Apparently offering SAUM+ performance, case has a couple of grains more capacity. Brass availability, the same motivation as the 7PRCW and hopefully better case and barrel life than a SAUM.
Shooting as good as the much loved .284 based versions but without the rebated case head and thus offering longer life to the primer pockets.
