Lodi Nationals and extra stuff ?

[

We had some Lobo Hefe from Pedernales Brewey and KCCO or as my wife calls it KooCoo. I like a good wheat beer, maybe Lienenkugel makes one?

I also picked up a good tip from a shooter named Marco at worlds in 2013. He had a piece of plastic cut that would fit between his scope rings and stuck out over his chamber port. Anything to keep things dry!

What is the best rain/snow gear for Lodi?

I don't expect snow but for light and warm a fleece lined hoodie is hard to beat. I keep one stuffed under the driver seat. 2 piece rain suits are nice when the ground is wet so I can shed the top but keep legs dry. I keep 2 sets under the passenger seat. Rain bibs with a hoodie is a good combination for this work.

Relative to additional considerations beyond local match paraphanalia, it would be good to include a comfortable lawn chair and a beach umbrella to go with it. With something like 6 relays there will be quite a bit of sit time and comfort will be what you need.
Yes, lawn chair, spotting scope, sun screen, maybe even a note pad to write down tips. There will be lots of time for discussions.

Snow is a remote possibility at WGC early fall. Can happen I guess, yet that time of year typically brings the best weather for shooting outdoors, day after day, in this part of the Midwest.

(Hint: Earl & Karin - if you're reading this - maybe switch Midwest Palma to late Sept.? Leave F-Class for mid-June so the folks not wearing heavy shooting jackets can better enjoy the 90+ temps?)

Can be cool in early morning, maybe foggy until sun get up higher. Be prepared but don't be afraid! You'll have a fine time of it, first visit or 50th.

Cart or wagon covers? Try BBQ covers. I'm using a 100 gal garbage bag over a vertical cart.

I've been told that to have half a chance to be competitive in the rain, bullets should be coated with an automotive product called RAIN-X. What is the best application method for this product?

I believe that is incorrect. Rain-X actually causes the rain to bead and roll off the windshield, or bullet, by diminishing the surface tension of the water through the use of some reagent that has a harmful effect on every other groove in the barrel. This mean that after 3 rounds of Rain-X coated bullets, your barrel will start spinning the bullet in the other direction but at undetermined intervals. It's what you call a randomizer, not something really sought after in precision shooting.

It's much better to pour the Rain-X directly on your hands before pulling the trigger as this will cause the fingers to bead and reduce contact with said trigger.

Or you might just gargle with the stuff every morning for a nice finish and wear it as an after shave so you don't get wet.

If you're competing in F-TR, ignore what I said and I will even buy you a gallon of the stuff. :-)

LMAO

(Tongue-in-cheek) Shooting in the Florida swamps we use Rain X all the time. We fill the barrel reservoir before the start of the match. I'm more concerned about ice and snow removal? Can I use a scraper on my scope lenses or do they sell special tools for the northern shooters?(Tongue-in-cheek)

Go through Monroe WI. before the shoot and pick up some Chocolate Bunny at the Minhaus Brewery. Better yet take an extra half day and do the Brewery tour there. Well worth the 10 bucks. You can taste every beer they make and the will send you home with a 5 pack and glass! Probably won't make you shoot any better, but what the hey!

I'll look it up, might be something to do during LR team day.

With the number of shooters expected I'd be real suprised if the caterer's not on board.

I've been alerting the local amenities to what's coming so they can decide whether it's worthwhile adjusting their usual hours to accommodate the patronage.

KD's (north of Lodi, east on Cty J may be open for breakfast (call first!!) but ALWAYS for drinks & dinner, except Monday I think) is close to the range.

Lucy's (on south edge of town, follow 113 heading towards Dane) opens at 6 AM 7 days a week, great for breakfast too.
KD's if a biker bar sandwich does it for dinner for you.

If not there's Rex the Inkeeper's down 113 on the north side of Waunakee. Takes about 20 minutes to get there from the range.

I'm sure there's other fare north up I-90/94 in the Portage / Dekorra vicinity too, just never felt a need to explore up that way.
